C&C Renegade: Team Death Match (Idea)

First off, this is a ton to read. I would very much appreciate any of you who take the time and effort to do so.

Before throwing this out there, I need everyone to know that this is just merely AN IDEA. I myself do not code, make maps, or script. I am merely a player with a strong sense of gameplay and a good imagination. I love Renegade and want to see it expanded as far as it possibly can. With that said, I always thought it would be interesting to have an actual official style TDM mode. None of this has ever been tested beyond the field of my own mind, so there is bound to be holes that I simply could of never thought of. That is part of the reason I am posting this; to have you guys, the dedicated Renegade players, to please read, evaluate, and respond with any questions, comments, or concerns on this idea. It did take me a few days to come up with, so it would be greatly appreciated. The main reason that I'm posting this, however, is to ask if this can be made by anyone. I know there are many fantastic coders out there in the Renegade world, so I figured I may as well throw this idea out there. From what very little I do know about coding in Renegade, I tried to make this mode as realistic as possible based on the already given elements of Renegade. I hope that someone out there can at least give it a go, because this mode would interest a wide variety of the Renegade fan-base I believe.

C&C Renegade: Team Death Match

Information:

This is an infantry only game mode. Games are played on small to medium new DM maps, preferably symmetric ones (such as a few of Zunnie's recent ones I have seen). One team will spawn one on side at the start of the map, and the other team will spawn on the other. They run at each other from the start and kill as many enemy's as fast as possible. Spawning after the first original spawn is completely randomized throughout anywhere at all within the boundaries of the map.

The objective is to reach a certain amount of kills before the other team is able to reach that amount. In order to come up with this kill amount, I think it is best to use the equation (6*map_start_player_count). Meaning if there are only 6 people in game, that number would equal 36 kills for one team for the game to finish. If there were 20 players in game, that number would be 120. This equation's purpose is to not have a set number so that any amount of people can play in the mode in one server at any given time. There are specific edited Classes, Perks, Kill streaks, and crates as well, all listed below. It's gameplay style is indeed much like CoD, but I think that with Renegade's gameplay added into this style, it would make for a fun and interesting combination.

There are no credits, instead there is XP. XP can only be gained from killing an enemy. There is no gradual increase or harvester dumps obviously. You will get no points or XP for damaging an enemy or assisting in their kill, or repairing anything. The only points and XP come from getting a kill. Because there are no purchase terminals on the map and you may only choose 1 character per life, there is obviously no refilling neither. After each death, you are brought to a purchasing screen that asks you to select: 1. Your class; 2. Your Perks; and 3. Your Kill Streaks. After selecting these, you are good to go to spawn yet again. There is undoubtedly some information that I simply forgot to write down or didn't think of regardless, so if this does not make sense, please ask for a clarification and I will do just that.

*Weapons Edited - Important ************

  • Rocket Launchers now only fire in first person mode. No third person firing for any rocket launcher.
  • Strong Rocket Launcher has its splash damage decreased by 15%.
  • Sniper Rifle can only be fired in scope mode. No more no-scope sniping. Snipers also only have 2 shots per clip.
Armor Pickup System:

Small armor pickup=25 armor

Medium armor pickup=50 armor

Large armor pickup=200 armor

There are no health pickups.

All weapons and armor remain on the ground for 13 seconds before disappearing.

Perks:

Perks are reset and chosen by the user after each death. After a person dies, they are immediately brought to a purchasing screen to choose their next class. After choosing that class, they will choose 1 perk from each Perk Category (unless they have a sniper, who is able to choose 2 Perk 1 Category selections). After they select a class, their perks, and a kill streak combination, they are spawned and ready to go. Perks cannot be changed while still alive; they may only be changed upon death.

Perk Category 1:

Glowing c4s- Gives all c4s a slight glowing effect.

Visible Crates- Crates appear on the radar as a white star.

Distort- When shooting any gun besides the repair gun, you become invisible on enemy radars.

Max Armor- Maximum Armor increased by 20.

Perk Category 2:

Hardline- Kill streaks become available at 1 less kill.

More Armor- When you pickup a weapon from the ground, you are automatically also given a 15 armor pickup bonus as well.

Additional Kill Streak- You are able to choose one additional XP streak.

Drop proximity- You drop a proximity mine on the spot you died whenever killed by an enemy.

Perk Category 3:

Hunting- Puts a star on your radar on the last person to kill you.

Add proximity- Spawn with 1 proximity mine in your weapons pack by default.

C4 refill- Whenever you pickup a medium or large armor pickup, all of your c4s are automatically refilled.

Tick Tock- When targeting a timed c4, the time left until explosion will be shown on your screen.

Kill Streaks:

All Kill Streaks kills do add on to your kill amount. All bot kills do not count towards enemy kill streaks. Kill Streaks can each only be activated one time per life. Kill Streaks reset to 0 after each death. Kill streaks are activated by pressing “B.” After activation, you are given your Kill Streak reward. You may only choose 3 Kill Streaks unless you are running the Additional Kill Streak Perk, which allows you to have 4.

1. 3 Kills- Makes any enemy who kills you automatically lose 35 Health upon your death.

2. 3 Kills- Regenerates half of your armor whenever activated.

3. 4 Kills- Become invisible on enemy radar for the next 60 seconds (does not carry over to next life).

4. 5 Kills- Given a 5 second detonation nuke for planting. Nuke explodes 5 seconds after plant.

5. 5 Kills- Drops a team of 3 team soldier bots to fight for you.

6. 6 Kills- You are given a strong repair gun.

7. 7 Kills- Turns you into a kamikaze, making you explode with a decent radius upon death.

8. 8 Kills- You are given a 1 shot reload Ramjet.

9. 9 Kills- Drops a group of 4 team officers to fight for you.

10. 10 Kills- Regenerates all life and armor when activated.

11. 13 Kills- Activates an earthquake that damages all enemies 50% of their max health and armor.

12. 15 Kills- Drops a group of 5 Havocs/Sakuras to fight for you.

13. 17 Kills- Gives you a 4 shot reload Ramjet.

Crates:

Currently in work and will take all reasonable suggestions into consideration. I do know that 1 will spawn in the very center of the map at the start of the game, and after that they will spawn every certain amount of kills randomly throughout the map.

Thank you for any of you who took the time to read through this whole thing, as i know it is a lot. I would very much appreciate any thoughts on this game mode. If anyone thinks they want to give it a go at making this, or knows that some part of it cannot possibly be made in Renegade, please contact me about it as soon as possible. Thanks.

Wow, I did read through that and it would be a hell of a mod, but that is A LOT of coding.. thats like starting from scratch almost.

Posted
Yeah and then getting the players that want to do it....

The reason I play Ren is because it's an unique game. There's no game like Ren. Sure Ren has his flaws, bugs, but I'm acutally ok with ren as it is right now. I wouldn't like to see it change to a CoD/Battlfield type of game. There are already plenty of those around lol.
Posted

It would just be a mode option. You wouldn't have to play in it lol. Like sniping servers for instance

Posted

To much to read,some1 sum it up in 1-2 Sentence plx, thx.

Posted

Nice idea. But, is there any demand for a DM mode? I don't think there are enough players left to fill up a server like this. If I remember correctly, St0rm had a DM server as well, and that was most of the time empty.

Posted

Yes, but that was just a mere random spawn with the same character, pick up weapons, and go kill enemies. This is an actual system for a TDM mode, so it's completely different, Many people who usually hang out in sniping servers would play in this type of server, I have no doubt. Choosing the perfect class for you in the type of situation you're in on the map you're in, combined with your perfect perk setup, in order to try to reach your kill streaks, is an awesome feeling. I personally would spend a lot of time in a server like this, because it's so awesome. Not to mention that if the new maps were made for it, it would provide even more of a unique Renegade feel.

This seems like a 'tailored' mode to certain people IMO.

Ren is barely live as it is, the last thing it needs is risky mods being made which could potentially lower the playerbase aswell as the playercount of the community.

Don't fix whats not broken - my two cents.

Posted

Is every mode not tailored to specific people? I'd argue that it is.

It's not fixing anything. It's a completely separate mode.

Like apples and oranges. They're both still fruits, but some people prefer one to the other. Doesn't mean the other is broken when someone brings an apple to an orange party

Posted
We did talk a little about this last night. Not sure if it got any legs though.
Posted

Okay, fair enough. Was there any main reason holding you back? I'm assuming it is the input to output ratio? You don't think that it will get enough players to be worth it? If that's the case, i can get a petition going to see who would play in this kind of mode. That would give an estimate of the success of it as a whole.

If it was it being too hard to make, i'd like to know which part, so that I can possibly edit that part in a manner that is easier to code for.

Posted

Obviously there are a lot of different opinions here, and I don't mean this in a negative manner but I really doubt this idea will happen as for my reasons stated above.

The game experience of renegade is unique is it not otherwise it would have not survived all these years I personally think tweaking it too much would harm that and have negative effects, there have been a lot of different mods put upon on this game and the only ones that have really made a bonus effect to the player base where things such as no reload etc, and that is a small scale but somewhat useful to the majority that see it fit for purpose.

End of the day this really falls down to majority vote as everything usually does if 2 people want this and 10 people don't then it really speaks for itself, Like I said this isn't meant in a negative manner so don't take offense to this post.

Posted

It'd be a separate server entirely. Like a sniping server for instance, except with the settings I have presented. Therefore, your claim about it possibly harming the player count or having negative side effects is irrelevant. Nobody is forcing anyone to play this mode.

I'm also unclear to as where this random 2/10 number came up, but I'd gladly do a petition to see the real numbers.

I see what you're doing here, like I said don't take offense but never mind.

I used random numbers merely to represent what I was saying in terms of majority, obviously if you don't agree with something then it automatically becomes irrelevant *rolls eyes*

Posted

I'm unclear to as how you are now under the impression that I somehow took offense to what you said. I respect your opinion entirely, I'm just pointing out that your logic behind said opinion was flawed. Clearing it up for you, if you will.

Where are these majority votes coming from? I see no such poll or petition for you to assume that the majority would ever be against a mode like this? I believe you're making an unwarranted assumption in all honesty.

It is probably a lot of coding and a pain in the ass at this point. I think your best luck is at MPF with zunnie because he has some sort of death match stuff going on.. You don't need to fight for your point here at this point or argue with mikey. It is a lot to be done and rencorner is already in the process of doing something apparently so im sure their reasources are occupied. Maybe they could consider it in the future if zunnie did not already step up to the plate

Posted

There's really only a few codes that would take a bit to make, as i understand it. The rest is basically like an edited vet system, which as it happens, is already made. I'll continue to push for this, just because I do feel so strongly that this type of server can and would be both fun and successful :)

I agree with that one. I think you have made your point clear for all to see. Your best bet from here would be to pm the admins or coders here and let the public fight themselves lol If they want that petition then you can get it. its tough for you to fight off anyone who disagrees with you then the admins might get upset and lock the topic. So im on your side to try and keep order in this topic =p

Posted

haha yeah i suppose you are right. The topic itself was meant more for the public to share their opinions on specific sections of the idea, rather than discuss the possible overall success of it lol. I still would need some crate ideas, after all :P

Volcom was more taking the lead and talking to Blacky. We have the snipe server to play with. But everyone on ts last night was drunk (except for blacky, poor guy tried to hid several times). So dunno it any will even remember the convo's lol.
Posted

Haha yeah i remember. I was on TS for a bit just listening. It was quite amusing :P

"I'm from fucking Queens you nigga"
