shaitan Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Welp, I'm going on that list of people who've deleted their Facebooks. They've been caught selling our private messages to other businesses(Netflix/Amazon/Spotify/Yandex/etc): https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/technology/facebook-privacy.html Fuck those people with a stick, sideways. 2
vlatkozelka Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Quite honestly, I think people (including you shai) only start to realize these practices exist after the news tell them they do... Hence ehh's "too late daddy" Consider Facebook your neighbor or acquaintance/friend, and you tell that person something "secret", then gossip happens. Do you have any way to stop them from doing so? No. Yet you still communicate with people. Somehow it's ok with people, but not with computers. Now Facebook is just that bigmouth friend, who also happens to be a super computer that forgets nothing. Still, knowing that, you people (myself included) agree to tell Facebook, and others, our secrets. It's that simple. Everyone was ok with that for a decade, until 'murica decided it's not ok lol. And decided to make this drama about it, and somehow only about Facebook. While Gboard (the default Android keyboard except in Europe I think) is collecting more data than mothers know stuff about their children. Pretty much zukie rubbed the American gov the wrong way, and they decided to !warn him just for the public to stir. At any rate, these computers have no interest in you, your friends, or any chit-chat you are doing. All they want is to profile you, to create a set of "rules" like "shai is friends with trist" "shai likes cheese", so that they can tailor web content for you, and so that they can accomplish certain business needs: insurance, medical services, food preferences, anything can make use of any data... Even if they stop leaking private messages, people will still post every sauce they added to their food on FB, along with a duck face and a legend/hashtag, just in case the computer didn't understand the context of the image. If people are that paranoiac about using the internet, well I got bad news for you. Private messages are nothing, I don't think data analyzing computers even need those, we already post enough shit on the internet. This forum alone can serve to accurately profile each and every one of us' personalities, tastes, interests, etc... so stop using Rencorner then? What is the solution then? Well first you need to know what the problem is: Software engineering is a very immature domain, and even worse it's rapidly evolving, to the point where no government, organization can govern it properly. What do I mean by immature? Well for example, civil engineering has strict rules for everything: what mixture concrete needs to be for a certain application, what characteristics a certain building needs before it's allowed to be built, etc... Because it's an exact science: there is right and wrong, no "maybe". In software engineering however, there is no "right" nor "wrong", there are just ways, and millions of them. So rules to govern every practice cannot really exist. There are no clear rules as to what criteria need to be met by a website for it to be online for example (Europe maybe working on that, but they are pointing at the wrong problems currently, banning memes and shit lol). I hope this makes sense, but it's like trying to govern philosophy: an inexact science. To sum up, the internet is just the usual neighbor gossip, but on much much bigger scale. And governing that is currently impossible, especially with those 80+ years old fucktards in the congress and European parliament that barely know how to operate a computer, yet try to interrogate some of the best software engineers in the world lol If you are looking for a quick solution. I'd say at least try to discipline yourself when posting anything on the internet (I just called congress and Europe fucktards for example, that's on my record now :) ) And don't blame it all on Facebook, blame it on the human nature. Why did I write all of this? Well it bugs me when I read articles like the ones you posted. There's nothing new to them, these problems are as old as the internet itself, yet people just suddenly become aware of them :/ 1
Joetorp Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 I don't know how I made it though the 1960's without facebook! I just didn't know what I was missing. Fast forward to 2018, I don't know how I made it through the 2010's without facebook! I found out...Nothing, cus I don't use it. Learn to live without social media, you'll be much better off!!! You wanna talk to someone, do it face to face, or over a land line. 8 hours ago, vlatkozelka said: To sum up, the internet is just the usual neighbor gossip, but on much much bigger scale. I don't agree with your concept of facebook being a neighbor or acquaintance. Do you give over personal info to your friend? Even your closest friend doesn't know all your secrets . If your friend reveals something about you, and you thought it was considered private, how many people do you think it might reach? Not many by comparison... You are right though, facebook is not the only place people deposit their info. 2 things you missed, 1) Hackers make money by selling info 2) Deals made by corporations like FB, by providing your information for sale. so it can be compiled, that is how they make their money... And thru taking in advertising. These 2 examples are not close to your best friend blabbing your secret. In America, those fucktards you mentioned, were lied to, never mind if some asked stupid questions, Enough did ask the right questions, and Zuckerberg lied by omission, but he wasn't the only one. 8 hours ago, vlatkozelka said: Softwarere engineering is a very immature domain, and even worse it's rapidly evolving, to the point where no government, organization can govern it properly. Software engineering has been around since the 1960's I think Bell Labs invented Unix in 1964. Comparing civil engineering to software eng. is an unfair comparison. Civil eng. is a structured disciple, math and physics play a part. Software eng. is more free flowing. All you are really doing is displaying a code that you made on a screen that may control something or mine data or 1 of a million things. It is limited by your imagination. And there in lies the problem, people that make a code to trick or make people do things they wouldn't normally do, such as volunteer personal information, hold a computer hostage. You get the idea... If every person that is a programmer had ethics and morals, there probably wouldn't be a problem. 1
D4rX Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Privacy on the internet is the biggest illusion ever. The GDPR, updated earlier this year, made me laugh. That was cute.
ehh Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 oh fuck you reminded me of cuckerberg talking to congress, that was difficult to watch tbh
shaitan Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 You're missing the point: they're selling access to our private chats to other corporations. Shit, where's our cut of the sales(intellectual property they all lobby for)? If I heard about other sites like Twitter doing it, I'd drop them too. Notice the last business I mentioned; Yandex. Think about the Russian-Cambridge Analytica-Facebook debacle. That had to of played a major part in their ability to precisely target people. What's crazy is you don't see that mentioned in the news. I don't for one second believe it isn't happening, not after Kapersky A/V and Huawei was recently caught spying using their products. You guys can do whatever you want, I'm just telling you what I'm doing and why.
ehh Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 O F C O U R S E but everyones fucked my good friend, all these cunt tech companies are all linked/talk to each other, dont use facebook? oh but you have a samsung phone? y i k e s
