Renegade PC info

Ok ,you guys, what do you think of the newer Renegade(192.223.24.250) PC? I've been debating with myself(and using some of you as sounding boards) for awhile now, and I'd like your input on whether we keep that new box or stick with Limestone(208.115.205.106) PC? Be truthful, because once we ditch Limestone, we won't get that pricing there again.

I upped the RAM on it from 4GB to 6GB(will be an extra ~ $70/year) the other night, and the map loading seems to be back to ~7 seconds or so instead of the ~30 seconds it has been.

We're running out of time, and I really cannot make up my mind. I don't like ditching Limestone after so many years with them(and we got it down to $75/month), but that lag the last few months has been utter crap.

192.223.24.250(Newer one)
 Pros: Less than half the price, lag seems to be better all around(New York and closer to Euros)
 Cons: 400gb virtual HD, wonky after restarts with the partitioning(programs "forgetting" they're in the firewall)
 Specs: Virtual PC, 6gb RAM, 4 core
 
208.115.205.106(Normal one)
 Pros:  $75/month, Physical, 3 harddrives to back things up on
 Cons: that lag lately
 Specs: Physical server, 465GB/279GB/279GB HD's, 32GB RAM

If we do this, I plan to get us the yearly server pricing. So, we'd need at least another $291 to be able to pay for everything(somewhere around that number). We currently have $345 in paypal. That NFO server would cost us ~ $428/year(if we get it on sale and my math is correct: $44.34 less than that)...and we wouldn't have to worry about that for quite awhile.

I've been looking into backups stuff lately. I'm either going to go with ordering a 1TB drive from OVH(we have a 500gb one, and it'd replace that) for an extra $16/month, or going with a site called iDrive. I'm trying to get them to re-offer the 90% off sale(after the first year it'd be $70/year) they sent to our junk folder I didn't see in time. I kinda liked that 2TB one, we could back up everything and have multiple versions of things(per PC). They told me things would also be backed up to their other servers in the country, and if we ever had to we could get an actual physical copy sent once a year(total loss type of thing).

In all honesty the lag spikes and random disconnects are kinda annoying since the change, my ping is actually slightly better but the random spiking and intense lag during bigger playercounts is making me like the pre change setup more, I thought it was just on my end so made some adjustments at first but heard and visibly seen a few others having the same issue ingame.

 

Though that being said, if we can save some expenses and the bigger majority of the players find it playable I think we should go for that..

hmm i only noticed lag spikes yesterday, but this could be renegades netcode..

i guess i need to play more games now to be sure..

maybe the new set sfps 63 could cause that.. when i played at 59sfps it was all fine

I turned that back to 60 atm, which'll really be 59. I had it on 63 because windows 10 seems to do that to servers.

As for the ping, from what I seen it looked like people liked that newer one way more. Who were the ones who disconnected? I'd like to go back and look through the logs and see how often it was and if it's the same for them as before.

new box: Download Mbps-555 / Upload Mbps-473

old box: Download Mbps-942 / Upload Mbps-871

So today I noticed some people complaining about lag. Unsure of their location. My ping was great as usual. 35-60 Range. I think more monitoring needs to be made to see how things go. Large amount of people were in game also, around 30-45. One weird thing I did notice is when I was a mammy on Island. Nod had the field. I was in GDI first water crossing, looking to the right. I seen a light. Then I seen the NOD plane come in and my reticle must of hit the right spot. Then i seen it say there was a flame tank in the plane. Strange my Mammy would identify something that far.

I see no difference from before the move and now, my ping has lowered from 130+ to 100, still a little laggy but Renegade has been lagging for me since I started playing. If it is saving money then go with it.

I like the server so far, i played on that DM Server with 30 ping and still lagged lol

I do have disconnects but from crashes (maybe my end? I dont know) havent had time to diagnose

This is the third time I’ve had it now, I thought it was just big games but it’s not discriminatory it seems.

I just noticed  your reply to my earlier shai, all I remember is the map was field and we got disconnected then a guy was raging he thought a mod kicked him and you messaged ingame from irc explaining he wasn’t lol

I asked you guys for a month about it, most ingamers liked it. We're stuck with it now.

Isn't as bad as limestone had gotten, internet wise. Two nights ago all of their stuff was down again.

keep that server how it its now. the mass connection loss is probably TT related or map related (i saw mass disconnect too, just on c&c_field). maybe there was an serverupdate or anything else like that. i see no more lag/troubles compared to the old server.

SFPS is stable

It’s sporadic anyway and somewhat rare honestly it’s not really *that* much of an issue anyway as everyone just rejoins most of the time

I havent noticed disconnections lately (I forget when that was happening a lot) but I also havent played as much recently. Been away from home or nobody on when I had time to log on). I'll keep track of it
