Mikey Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 @Admins/ 'Rule makers' Today joejjj80 kicked [CMPS.]Knight for 'afk repping' Personally I have never seen this as a rule before it doesn't appear in postmsg's or on any list (at least not what I have seen) but joejjj80 insists he spoke with multiple moderators and this is now a rule, I know afk players get kicked sometimes but he wasn't really afk for very long, anyway i'm not disputing the kick I am asking about the afk repping kick rule, does this actually exist? Seems a bit silly to kick players for being afk for a few mins and repping whilst doing so, at least they are still technically helping the team until they return. If they're away for a long time or over many maps I totally agree with the kick but otherwise is this really an enforceable rule?
masscarriers Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Sometimes it's kinda hard for us to know for exactly how long a player was AFK, especially when we're playing. We'll just stumble on a player not moving, 2-3 quick PMs and BAM !qkick. So to answer your question, there's no hard rule on how long a player has to be not playing to be kicked, be it a few minutes or several games. Mind yourself that an AFK qkick isn't that bad, the guy is free to come back right away when he's ready to play. The very worst that can happen is that you lose your char/weapons. If you're going to AFK rep something : 1) you're probably a tech/hottie, so you're losing 350. no biggie. 2) For someone to decide to AFK rep a building that's getting pounded, you're obviously in for quite a long game (I can't imagine someone doing this in the first few minutes of a new game, for instance). So you're probably full of creds anyways. For these reasons, and also the fact that you can easily get pushed over so you're not repping the MCT, or that the building can just die hence you're not repping anything anymore, or worst that a SBH can use your body to cover a nuke... Well, you'd be better off not playing at all. That's just an opinion though, I understand your point but to me an AFK is an AFK regardless of whether he tapped his LMB or not. And getting !qkicked isn't the end of the world, so to me this is a non-issue. I hope this answers your questions!
D4rX Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Back on St0rm, they had an auto-q-kick system where a person who wouldn't move for a certain time limit, would be auto-kicked. (like for 5 min or so) Before that system was implemented, certain mods there didn't have so much patience and just q-kicked whoever they wanted that would stand still for less than 5 min lol. Mikey Posted August 16, 2019 Author Posted August 16, 2019 @masscarriers Yeah I get that, wasn't sure if the rule existed after this apparent 'conversation' with all the mods and Shaitan according to joejjj80 it became a rule just seemed strange that no announcement or postmsg announcement was made for it since one is for every other rule, seems he possibly wasn't telling the truth (what's new lol). 20 minutes ago, D4rX said: Back on St0rm, they had an auto-q-kick system where a person who wouldn't move for a certain time limit, would be auto-kicked. Yeah I remember that actually, worked well too as well as I remember. The only issue I can see with it here is when people are waiting to populate an empty server
trunkskgb Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 I used to get kicked on Atomix due to a coding issue they had implemented because when I found a spot to snipe from, I never moved, they thought I was AFK, so I got kicked. No one realized I accumulated kills, and points, haha!
masscarriers Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 I personally tend to alt-tab to IRC to check logs before acting sometimes, for instance in a ledge nuke case, just to see who planted it and try to act before it actually lands. I hardly do it for qkicks tbh, because it's such a minor issue. Whenever I make a mistake like kick a player and he comes back right away screaming, I just apologize and call it a day. We're all human in the end and we just want to make this server a better place.
shaitan Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 *psst* That's not a rule, afk rules apply. Those rules do not apply to other mods kicking mods, they know this. When I see it in the game and if teams are borked(afk repper on the lower player'd side), I let it slide(depending on how afk they were). It'll fuck up the teams more and then more raging ensues. 2
Animoski Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 (edited) AFK repping assisted in this community beginning, starting, flourish and ultimately [almost] become what it is today. Ask me how I know? If you're AFK "repairing" you should be sparred from being considered "AFK" - if you're emptying your bullets into a PCT, another story... Edited August 17, 2019 by Animoski
Sean Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 The only other thing I can think to add is use !rm if you're going to be afk for a little bit. This way ingame moderators know that you're going to be afk for a little bit and grant you a grace period before being kicked.
ehh Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 if the building is getting attacked, i guess its okay. if not, i'd qkick them, they can easily just join back I guess it depends how long they've been doing it

Sometimes I get a call or email I have to answer to right away. Then it's back to ren after that's done. Usually I'm away about 3-7min. Edited August 17, 2019 by CMPSKnight
