Peshmerga Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 hey guys, I just build a new pc with some old pc-pieces. So now I build the following setup: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3,00 GHz AsROCK Mainboard : P4VM900-SATA2 512 DDR-RAM ATI Radeon X700 Series 256mb I know this is a bad pc but is it normal that I just reach about 25 fps in multiplayer training and about 1-10 fps in online-game ? Could you tell how to fix this problem? Perhaps, I will get better card soon I will also check for drivers, maybe the card is damaged or just too bad. Peshmerga
mademan Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 u have bad pc,try a Nvidia 7600 Gt or gs idk video card. This should put ur fps to 100,it cost me only 100 E,in romania Also try a 4 GB ram card, this will maintain the game very good,i have 3,75 ram and is great. This piece cost me 50E (U should know that Romania is the best-seller in PC's components) And also u have a good pentium, but upgrade it to a new version, this is a old version i think. Hope I helped u
WNxM45T3R Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 @ Peshmerga: Yeah what your saying is correct and TBH your doing quite well to get 10 FPS in my opinion. Unless you budget is really tight, I would not bother trying to upgrade it in any way. If you have no other option then I personally would start by doubling your RAM as it is so Cheap these days, then think about your gfx card. Have you tryed turning all the detail levels and resolutions down?
StJohn Gumby Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Also, if you haven't already, disable VSync in extended options. That should get you a few more fps. Unless you still using a CRT monitor as well Gumby
Guest Animoski Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 In terms of performance in Renegade, your bottlenecks are definitely the CPU (the Pentium 4s were extremely slow back in the day, AMD were ahead of them back then) and your RAM. My phone has more RAM than your computer. I would look into changing those two up, the X700 card should be good enough for Renegade honestly. 1
BillieJoe67 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Start by disabling shaders, and turning all the graphics options down low, and see if that has any effect. I suspect that it's not any one thing that gives you bad fps, but a combination of everything. I'm hoping you're running xp on that build as any other windows version wouldn't work tbh. If you start changing things inside the computer, I suspect you'll find that things no longer fit into the right holes so do some research before buying anything. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about upgrading, although I imagine that you'll end up changing everything if you go down that route Edit, I have no idea what your budget, if any, is; but I threw together a quick entry level gamers pc and it came to around 300 euros. Obviously, it's not perfect and you'll probably want to remove some bits and add others but it's a good starting point if you're interested
StJohn Gumby Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Damn, Thanks Billie, I forgot Shaders. Shaders are just below VSync. Move the slider all the way to the left. If all else fails try !buy newPC in F3. Gumby
Peshmerga Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Cool , thanks many usefull posts .. again @WNxMaster : yeah, the resolution is normal and detail level low, check screenshots down @StJohn Gumby : vsync is disabled but how you know im using a crt monitor haha @Animoski: I just changed up the card, I found a better one in my "old-pc-pieces-box" @BillieJoe:yes, im using windows xp. tell me more about this entry level gamers pc , i am interested about it. http://www.imagebanana.com/view/ps58dap1/IMG_1394.jpg http://www.imagebanana.com/view/bffwcjvx/Screenshot.3.png http://www.imagebanana.com/code/mkahkmk4/Screenshot.4.png http://www.imagebanana.com/view/i232pbgl/Screenshot.5.png
BillieJoe67 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 For configuring renegade graphics settings such as shaders, you'll need to open wwconfig which can be found in your renegade directory I would recommend that you set everything to the minimum to start with, check your fps, and then increase things gradually.
Skeeze Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Download gamebooster from www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html Go to nvidia control panel and go to 3d settings and change to performance. This should increase performance alot! Though my advice would be to burn your pc and buy a new one tbh. 1
Peshmerga Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Ok this gamebokster thingy didnt work for me ... I did it all what u wrote... I actually use this graphic-card : GeForce 9400GS
Joetorp Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 512 Mb ram needs to be at least 2 Gb ram. XP will run up to 3 gb, after that, no use. I increased my ram from 2Gb to 4 Gb and saw improvement.
Whitedragon Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 That should run ren no problem in small/medium games. What resolution are you using? It might be too high for an older setup like that. Try running stock ren without 4.0 and see if that helps any; the shaders and post-processing added in it might be giving you trouble. Also, I think the x700 might have been better than that 9400GS.
BillieJoe67 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I just checked those screenshots you posted, and you're running ren in 1024x786, which is probably way too high for your system, you can lower the resolution following the screenshots 5 posts ago
Peshmerga Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I just check nearly all resolution, for some reasons the lower resolutions are very bad. 640x480 : i just get max. 10 fps 800x600 : still low fps 1024x786 : highest fps about 40, in tunnels or if im in front of enemy and vehs its ~30-20 1280x1024 : bad ping + bad fps
Guest Sniper123 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 sugest you buy a time machine and come back to the future 2001 was not a good year for computers........that pc would have a value of £10 and is realy not worth the time effort or any cost to start upgrade it ...
Skeeze Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 The methods I and some others suggested should work and your pc should be fine with these settings. I used to play ren just fine with these specs except I had more ram. My last thoughts are that you're using outdated or wrong drivers.
Mikey Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Wow i had a worse graphics cards on my old pc, Nividia gforce mx440 with apgx8 or something it was, it wasnt very good but it handled ren fine so I dont think there is much difference
Peshmerga Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I updated all drivers with DriverGenius , so I dint think its because of the drivers...
Peshmerga Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I just turned off winamp and some other programs while playing and got 70 fps in ren sniper server. So the lag was caused by the memory, it was always at maximum while playing... So I will buy some DDR.
mademan Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 get 4 Gb ram or 3,you should have 200 fps like me with this memory
