Details please Windows version and if you have the name of the Virus that would help. I would find DJ-EKE as he works for McAfee (I think) or something like that.

back up what you need on external and do fresh windows install...

Boot into safe mode by spamming f8 after the computer bios screen flashes, but before the os loading screen shows, then highlight safe mode with networking and press enter.

Download the following programs:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/

http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE

Do not restart or allow programs to restart your computer during the following steps:

1) Run rkill to terminate any suspect processes

Install mbam, superantispyware and ccleaner

2) Run malwarebytes full scan of your c drive

3) Run a super anti-spyware full scan (can't remember name of the scan) of your c drive

4) Run ccleaner file cleaner a few times (Open ccleaner, click run cleaner, wait to finish, repeat a few times)

5) Run ccleaner registry cleaner a few times (open ccleaner, select registry from the left hand side, scan for issues, fix selected issues, repeat a few times)

6) If your av supports boot-time scanning, open it up and configure it to scan at the next startup, then restart

If it doesn't, then open it up and do a full scan

7) Restart

If the virus is still there then as has been suggested, make a backup of any files you desperately need (I would recommend booting off a ubuntu installation cd and run from disc, then connect the external and copy the files across

If you're running vista (god forbid) or 7, then you should be able to perform an in-place upgrade over your current installation using the os cd, which will preserve your files and settings.  However, this may not work, it depends on how your system is infected, and the virus itself.

System Protective Protection v 3.7.17 has crippled my computer, spammed f8 to try to get into safe mode, nothing it just asks me what operating system i would like to use. I really wish i could give yall more information but this virus has made it impossible to access anything on my laptop. So i guess the next best thing would be shooting it with a shotgun?

When it asks you which operating system, there should be something that says press such and such a key for advanced options; press that key and you should be able to select safe mode

If you got on the computer without antivirus and downloaded something mischievous looking, that is your fault. But as the others said, download the antivirus programs, but first boot into safe mode. You might want to ensure tho, the files you back up, just don't happen to contain the virus as this will cause any other computers to screw up.

Seems like some good info in this thread, I've had good luck with a site called "Hijack this" in the past. You become a class project for college IT pro wannabees.

Although it sounds like you may have to reflash your BIOS if you cant get in to recovery or boot from CD.

good luck
