Server stuff lately

Guys, you may have noticed that we keep being Ddosed into oblivion lately.

1. That 'new Temp box' we rented is pretty much dead to us. I can't connect to it in any useful way after all of the Ddosings(they broke something or OVH permanently mitigated it without that part being shown anywhere). They also are not answering support tickets.

2. The normal Marathon we rented for a year, is up and down with Ddosing. I got that things supposed anti-Ddos firewall setup, with no fucking help as usual from them(they don't have tutorials(let alone layman's termed ones) and I was reading some of their old Staff bashing how shit it was).

3. Blacky took a copy he made of all of Renegade related stuff from last week, and put it on his home server lastnight; it lasted an hour or so until it was flooded...and his home internet(his net is as fast as our servers).

4. I bought us yet one more goddamn server. I am idly setting it up, but I'll be honest.. it's supposedly the same as the original...but it's a goddamn weak piece of shit cpu-wise(slow as molasses and it wasn't the 'free 2 days trial' since we bought from them before). Noone's getting that information until I'm done with it...because if I don't run away screaming; it'll be behind an Anti-Ddos system(where the IP will be hidden).

 

You do not have your Renegade Ranks updated, it's on 3-4 different Marathon servers. Can't keep up with that since servers go down. I don't like it either, it means all these years of making sure we saved ranks(only lost a few days worth before) are thrown out the window(and my stats I post in here). We've had that ranking stuff since 2012, literally the first bot @Animoskiand I got going here. Even when the Harddrives would fail a few times, @Volcom @Strike @Manuel857 @masscarrierswe all made sure those were saved.

The point of this post is this: Some things are going to have to change for now. Stop coming to me for every complaint, every question. You're stressing me the fuck out even more since it feels like i cannot get ONE thing done. You have a bunch of moderators here, ask them. They may be in the dark in some things, but that's not because I'm an asshole: it's because EVERYTHING is up in the air atm.

Listen up people, just back off Shai for the time being, please. He is human like the rest of us. He is doing is best with what he has. Until this situation gets sorted out, play on other games. I'm sure you can all contact each other and play other Multiplayer games together and have fun right.

Yes I know lots of you love Renegade, I was thinking of getting back into it myself but let's all get through this together and help out Shai....stop pestering him. There are other mods/admins to bug and if we can't help you out then we will contact Shai on your behalf. 

 

Players>contact the Mods.

Mods>contact the Admins.

Admins> contact Shai and Trojan.

 

Can we all follow this please, it will help everyone involved and things can be sorted out more efficiently. I gather the mods won't have all the answers to everything so let them contact the admins on your behalf.

shai, honestly if you need help with firewalls, linux, or the anti ddos firewall rules, hit me up on discord or wherever.  I don't like you being stressed out and having to just shell out money for servers here and there.  I'll help wherever I can.

Semi-sorted for now, waiting to see if the OVH server gets Ddosed(so I have the normal NFO one off).

what kind of hardware and network connection would a server need to be running smoothly and lag-free?

A 70thz, 4 core quantum chip with 2 tb ram and a 200tb HD, should do it!

I have good experience with OVH and their VAC. They filter automatically the bad traffic out.
For me it always worked like a charm.

Good thing that firewall rules with a big ddos attack not really help. especially when its a software based.

volumetric attacks are fine, anything thats layer 7 OVH cant help you.  Which is where custom firewall rules come into play.

 

I'm not sure what that 2nd thing youre saying, sounds broken english 😛  but, dealing with the renx ddos'r  Firewall rules had to happen or the FDS crashed out hard core.

 

I was just offering to get RC back online,  luckily hes stopped.
