Son returning to Ren, issues getting setup to play w/us

It's been so long, I cant remember what I did to set up C&C

My son bought a fresh copy of C&C:R and downloaded TT scripts, installed, and ran. Also tried Renlist.

The only thing he can get to is to create an XWIS account. He cant see servers from the launcher nor the TT launcher, and as of yet has no response from xwis (Is this needed anymore?)

I can't help him, as he lives 600 miles away from me.

I'd thought we just install the game, install the patches, and we're in. What am I not remembering correctly, or what am I missing?

I used to have a problem where I couldn't view the WOL/XWIS servers on renlist, but the GSA servers were fine.

 

Another temporary way, you can directly connect to rencorner by changing the target of a windows shortcut: Create a shortcut to game.exe in the game folder (shortcut can be moved to anywhere else). Right click on it and click on properties. It will open the properties window, add to the target box the following:

+connect 192.223.24.250:5001 +netplayername "NICKNAME"

(change NICKNAME to whatever obviously, keep the "")

Don't delete the game.exe path, meaning the text in the box should be like that:

C:\Westwood\Renegade\game.exe +connect 192.223.24.250:5001 +netplayername "NICKNAME"

(your game.exe is probably on a different path. I have the original CD so my installation is old school :) )

That's definitely should connect to rencorner if everything else with your Ren is ok.

1. The Renlist launcher he just needs to fill out the OPTIONS Settings > plop in the executable pathway > GSA(Gamespy) nickname part. He'll be able to use that secondary tab.

2. If he wants to use the Xwis servers it needs the serial/account/pass. You need to have him make an account at Xwis.net, use that login information, then register his serial at Xwis.net/cp. He'll then be able to use that nickname and password when he loads up renegade. Short tutorial on what to do in the game when he gets his nick/serial/pass from Xwis.net site(numbered each pic, top left): here

Also, he'll be able to plop in the info needed for the WOL/Xwis part of Renlist's OPTIONS
