I remember when I got banned by liquid on that pyramid map with moving doors. I shot him in the back and he thought I was in front of him invising. Banned on the spot for 3 years

I remember somehow getting on the opposite team in a lobby war, clanwars.cc or Jelly Server vs some n00b server.  But I was playing with the n00bs under "eLmOJaXoN."  Was rollin on City Flying thanks to the box and harv whoring before pointsfix.  Those were the days.  I think it was the one where Spoony directed all the shooters to come out and shoot the harv on Field to get mass money.  Good memories.

i remember when i first in to clanwars I would only play sniper only matches and any time we would be winning someone would just go snipe the harvester at the end of the game and then we would lose.  Or the guys at BR would not play all month then just hop on and nerd it up for the last 2 or 3 days of the month and wine the cup everytime.  I think the only cup I ever won was a clan I made with simpee and every other contender was caught cheating so we won by default.  :)  That was before the first to five series when you could just play a cw and it would automatically get registered on clanwars.cc.  This game was so much fun back then

I couldn't agree more.  Memories of the super old school clanwars.cc website where it reported automatically.  Then it moved to the new interface and you had to report losses.  I don't think I was ever on a team that won the cup unfortunately.  I do remember BR just rollin everyone though.  Back when clanners were more 4v4-7v7.  Mafia and c0ry are the two I remember from BR.  Then one day h20 appeared on the scene and started rollin everyone in smaller games.  It's hard to believe all that was 16-17 years ago.  I quit playing in 2006 because I moved out into the country with antenna internet.  Back now though.

I used to get rolled by most NA teams, but BR was the only team that felt demoralising to play against, they'd troll all game and still win LMAO

I still remeber the month mkod played 600 games and still lost the cup to BR playing only 70ish

I just signed up here when i saw this post.    I am an old school player,  probably too old school.  I haven't touch Renegade in over a decade.   I am part of the original Clanwars group that hosted the website.   I played in 2002 to maybe around 2004.    I actually met Will once about 15 years ago - when he flew out from the UK to hang out with us for a few days.    I picked him up at the Pittsburgh airport.    I had no idea what he looked like - it was pretty hilarious.    I am about 5 foot 7,  short i know.    Off the plane walks this 6 foot 4, skinny, pale as snow, totally British dude.   We had a great time for those few days.   We took him into downtown Pittsburgh.   He loved the drive through the Fort Pitt tunnel into the city - and it is a good drive.    We drank quite a bit - some of it is a blur.     I do remember playing him in a 1v1 Renegade match locally..  he spanked me so hard.    He was damn good - i was largely undefeated in 1v1s up until then.    I remember him telling us how his mates would prank him by dropping him off randomly in the country side and leaving him to find his way home.   

Its kinda sad that i lost touch with him over the years.   He was a good dude.   He stopped visiting our private forum regularly,  and would pop in every few years to post a few times and then disappear again.    No one knew he was having medical issues.   Its very sad to hear he passed.    It is very sobering to think that he was a bit younger than me - now 40 years old.    Cancer is a bitch.

I am so devastated to know that I would never get to meet my brother anymore because he has passed away.

Will was not just my friend but my Brother. Born thousands of miles apart on opposite ends of this Earth into completely different peoples, Will was an angel that touched my life in a unique way.

During many ReneForum rages and topics, we bonded and became friends outside of Renegade.

Ever since he suddenly stopped posting at RenegadeForums around Nov/Dec of 2013, I have been trying to get in touch with him. I would never have guessed what he was going through.

All these years since, I would think of him every other day hoping to finally talk again. Sometimes it was everyday.

As eerie as this sounds to everyone, just a week and a half ago, I had a dream where I was playing a 1v1 with him on Field (one of his favorite maps). Yes, a dream.

"I was on Nod and Spoony was on GDI. He had a weird tank that looked like an Arty but had the Med tank camo . He was near the GDI bunker. I am at the Nod base entrance at this moment looking at him. In this dream, I am thinking "now if I get a Flamer and rush, it would be over!" But then the server disconnects and I see a weird XWIS loading screen with an error. And the game and the dream is over."

How freaking odd is that? 

I only came to RenCorner to find the missing textures for the RxD maps tonight. I saw this topic. And I wept for Will.

I have spent the past hour and a half digging up my old external HDD. Wanted to share some more pictures of Will.

I post these with sad tears of great brotherly love.

Manuel, thank you so much for sharing this message. So very sad. My quest to talk again to my brother, at least in this earth realm is over.

So sad. Life is so short. We are all brothers. Because of us, this game that brought us together will never die.

RIP Spoony

Didn't know him personally but been around long enough to have perhaps shared an APC ride or 2 with him and recognise how much of an impact & influence he was to the Renegade community. 

Back when I was a newbie, I remember reading some content he authored on a site called renegade-wiki. It was a site all about gameplay techniques with a lot of references to clan wars, and that some of the best players, often are the best because of their clan war experience. I suspect the site no longer exists but still even to this day I hide the 1st mrls behind the first mound in C&CField, with a med tank behind the 3rd mound. And on C&CCity, whoring the harvy at the beginning with a tank hidden in the corner often gets the upper hand in the late game.

Also I remember forum discourse (jelly & renegadeforums), he was very passionate about the "Points fix" to stop free inf whoring creds off the harvy, very passionate about that one topic in particular! :)

You can see parts of it using the internet archive project. There are some snap shots from different dates, I checked some sub-pages and surprisingly they are well there. I also see that at some point some douche edited/deleted some of the pages, but these are only snap shots so you can always look at prior dates.

1. What pyramid map with moving doors?  The one that UnitXc made with the Goldeneye map in the middle of it?

2. I never permanently banned anyone for invisihugging - the longest ban we made was for HaTe and I had to have like 8 people review the Fraps of it before I placed it

Guy also had repeated glitch abuses for sniping, like firing through the Field wall to kill people, etc., which is why it was 3 months

I would love if someone could dig up the footage of your soldier completely snapping down at the guy beneath you when you'd been firing across the map at AnThRaX - anyone watching it could see clear as day that you were using an aimbot, and to this day you're still lying about it

The worst part was you got Bad demoted for leaking mod info, because he was just that biased of a guy and didn't care at all that his own buddy was cheating

In all honesty, I was probably better in tanks than you were in the game - I'm sure you'd beat me at sniping, but the game had a lot of elements to it

As for the last part, I find it hard to believe that I singlehandedly damaged the overall entire Renegade community more than guys like 0x90 who released working hacks dozens of times over the years for the public to use, but you're entitled to your opinion lol

I received an email that aRGHathol messaged me on these forums and checked back on Spoony's topic to find you said some dumb shit

 

1) The anticheat Jelly was using at the time certainly didn't block aimbot, and AnThRaX had a textbook example of you using it - you saw the footage, so why are you defending it?

2) Bad leaked that video to you, despite it being clear-cut evidence that you were cheating with no other possible excuse, because of how hard your gun snapped to an enemy that emerged into your view directly beneath you

3) What about my attitude are you taking issue with?  Me giving you a hard time for cheating?  Maybe you shouldn't have cheated - did that cross your mind?  I don't think anyone is the bad guy in their own mind, but in this case it's you, no matter how you choose to look at it

 

Spoony would have supported both your ban and the removal of Bad for leaking mod section info, especially when it was him being a tool trying to protect his buddy who was clearly cheating
