Today I was waiting on Volcano_Rxd for the game to end since there were 3 nod tanks in the GDI base, Jo_Mama kicked me from the game for 'being afk' even though I was in the game with a sniper and had points and kills. I asked him nicely to refund me 1 grand because PP was destroyed and he kept dodging the request up until I told him that I will take it to the forums at which point he also warned me 'for abuse' because I was going to tell on him.

so, as i was the guy who reported beefcake for being afk i´ll add some more details to the story here.

first of all beefcake went afk in the game on mesa before volcano aswell, after he raged about pp being destroyed by one arty and getting killed by an chameleon while typing. he was pissed as fuck and said he would just wait until game ends

then on volcano i saw him in the middle of bar as a deadeye not moving or doing anything probably just waiting for the game to end again. iirc he had 1 kill, 1 death and 3 points while the game already lasted a couple of minutes, which is quite low since he´s a very strong player. so seeing him there doing nothing again because gdi pp died i while nod had all buildings left i assumed he just wanted the game to end again and went afk,

i don´t think that´s fair to the gdi team at all, we defended well, got a med and held the map for quite a while from that point, i´d say the map went on for at least 10 more minutes from that point. i mean of course we´re the underdog there, but you can certainly come back from that situation if the teamplay and the players are good. and espescially after beefcake openly admitted he went afk the map before because he was so tilted i think the kick was absolutely correct. in that situation if gdi gets an active good player on an open map like volcano instead of him doing nothing standing in bar it can make the difference between gdi having a chance to come back or losing for sure.

and if you agree with the kick jo_mamma made i´d also recommend checking out the chat logs afterwards, even at the start of the game on under after volcano beefcake was still raging and draging him for making an imo absolutely reasonable kick. moderators keep the server running and should be treated with respect, there is no need for such behaviour towards them. espescially as a longtime player like he is he should know better. like even if he actually intented to play and just had a toilet break or whatever, given the full story he has to realize the kick might have been unwarranted then but was unlucky, there was no need to make such a fuzz.

i  don´t know how strictly you apply the afk rule in general, but for me the kick was correct, the game was pretty fast-paced and hectic, so if this is too strict then maybe jo_mamma wanted to get this over with quickly and go back to playing. i´d honestly prefer mods to handle it like this in general, espescially on maps without base defences.

It's perfectly ok and licit to just wait for a game to end while you're at your keyboard. Especially if your team is sucking ass or if you lost most of your buildings and you just don't want to get kill-whored. If it is true that he himself admitted to be AFK, then he has no excuse; but as long as you are alert and ready to move/reply etc, you should be fine. Again, AFK literally means AFK: when someone is not at his/her keyboard. If you want to redefine AFK to 'not being useful to your team' or 'not in constant movement', then you might as well start kicking noobs at the bottom of the score table who are not doing anything useful, or noobs who sit for hours shooting at tun with mlrs/arty without moving.

Point taken, it's true. But however lame that is, it's still licit to do. But just as a fucking reflection: it's stupid to snipe-whore in low player-count maps w/ no base defenses; and then expect your teammates to do everything for you. Except for Complex, I avoid snipe-whoring at the beginning of maps with no base defenses if the player count 14-16 or less... unless I'm actively trying to nuke shit (which rarely happens at the beginning of maps).

Manuel's point alone already established that this is far from an absolutely reasonable kick; and he is in all his right to rage and drag all he wants as long as he doesn't go overboard. IMO 'overboard' should be a really high bar given the drama-nature and history of this game that makes it so unique. That's why I'm so against excessively moderating speech or banning certain non-racist words here. Every server in Ren and W3DHub now have their own lists of unspeakable words jfyi, which is stupid. Nonetheless, mods here are pretty chill and seldomly abuse. Knowing JO_MOMMA, I doubt he had any malice, probably he just tried to address complaints from whiny players.

i don´t really take issue with him just sitting the mesa map out, once pp dies the game is 99% over and i do it myself every now and then, too. espescially if the other team is more interested in kill-whoring instead of ending the game. which is what he admitted to do btw, he didn´t say he goes afk, he said he´s sitting the game out on mesa, i´ve been vague. however it´s important context in regards to why i thought he´s afk on volcano and why jo_mamma might have been quick to make a decision here.

you´re simply not dead on volcano if you lose pp and him having no intention to continue to play on the map hurts the gdi team severely. and i don´t agree with your argument about kicking noobs then at all, you can´t force someone to play better, but you can expect players to at least try and actively take part in the game and it didn´t seem like he had that intention at all. could have moved his ass to hit the arty whoring bar with his deadeye then if that would have been the case.and if the team would have been horrible, we hardly would have held the map for such a long time afterwards.

and you´re correct, jo_mamma certainly didn´t intend to do any malice, he just kicked someone i reported for giving up on a map where there was no need to do so yet who sat out on the map before aswell. i mean if you´re a veteran player, even if the kick wasn´t how things are handled at the server usually, why do you have to be such an ass about it? had you simply continued to play you wouldn´t be in that situation and all you have to do is to rejoin again, no harm, no disadvantage at all. being this toxic about it is unneccessary and harms the community.

some of the most fun games in renegade are when the underdog makes a comeback, so i think encouraging these things to happen by being rather strict with kicking those that give up is good in general.

This situation was handled very poorly tbf, we have hardly and players in this game as it is, kicking for half assed reasons is doing no good for anything.

Perhaps the mod in questions needs to be trained a bit more on the process, seems he/she is not clear on that.

I bought a deadeye and went back to bar because Nod had a bunch of tanks outside the barracks lol. I alt tabbed for 30 seconds to play music on yt and came back when I heard the ding from the pm.

 

There's people that go afk for half an hour all the time and no one does anything even when we report them.
