hi, is there anything i can do to have the inspectorgadget theme uploaded to the soundfiles you guys use for the server so i can use it as my setjoin? i think it would be pretty funny!

Typicaly setjoin sounds are a perk of people who donated to the server.

We don't add individual sounds one at a time though, since it forces people to download some ttfs data before playing the game. What we can do is upload a bunch of sounds and other stuff if needed all in one, and that sound can be a part of it no problem I guess. It's been quite a while since we'be updated the sounds.

I'll wait on Shai to weigh on this but if you can send me a short (less than 5 seconds) mp3 version of the sound I'll package it with some stuff.

Don't look for that to happen anytime soon. As it stands there's your sound and GetP's...that's it. It won't be worth the hassle of listening to/dealing with the complaints atm.

We also have the downside of moar shit to download.

Ask around if others want to hear different sounds, too.

I think I have a pack with a few sound files that I meant to integrate to the server somewhere, that never actually made it.

The thing is, like Shai said we need a bunch of sounds to implement all at once, or else all players have to deal with the download when they try to join the server. It may seem moot for people like us with good internet (like my 6 mb/sec :O ) but it's actually a big deal for people in say Lebanon with 56k level internet. They need to update for crazy long before being able to play...

So anyways, it's not a dead horse but idealy we'll need at least a dozen sound bits to implement to make it worthwhile. A few years ago I scrapped some sound bits that I though would be funny and it was a big hit on the server, we just need a few more "popular" sound bits that people are actually gonna use and enjoy.

interesting. didn´t know ren has much players from countries with bad internet. and if you want to make the upload worthwhile, maybe advertise on the server you´re about to do it and people can make suggestions in the forums or something? i´m not very well connected in the community, i´m not helpful when it comes to spreading the message.

Is it possible to download the file(s?) outside of the Ren client and install it in the right directory, by that players won't have to download it via the Ren client?

We could give a heads-up of two weeks with automatic messages in the game chat and the forums, so people can download it in their free time.
