Request removal of rape sounds

Isn't it time to remove all in game memes and sounds related to this horrific act?  Obviously its a part of war and Renegade is a war game....but seriously? People no longer joke about racism or cancer, this should be added to the list.

Never really thought about it before as its just a background sound ie; like the pirate song. But then its recently occurred to me I guess as its more in the public discourse.

Discuss please.

i agree with removing it or at least rename it, since it´s named "rape" i always thought that´s what it´s meant to be and that kind of sucks tbh. another candidate to get rid of for me personally would be that stupid hentai fucking sound or whatever that is

I strongly support that, it should be removed whether it's death or a rape, same goes to the sound Inspector is referring to.

These sound tracks are 90% of the reason why I !disabled sounds. I don't want to hear them personally, and I don't want to explain wtf is wrong with me to any of my family members or to my neighbors (if somehow they would hear it, idk, walls are thin in America), there is no good explanation for hearing it. And yes I'm aware about the existing of headphones, I prefer speakers most of the time.

I never associated this with the actual sexual act, in the gaming world I interpreted it as someone being demolished by the enemy a lot (though I do see the connotation)

Perhaps a simple rename of the sound will keep everyone happy? I mean, after all it's not an actual rape sound.

yeah but who said they would? i think these sounds are annoying and or gross and i´d prefer not to hear them in my leasure time. thank you very much

The problem is with the sound, not the file name it is saved as or how you trigger it.

It is a death scream, not a rape. It's straight out of Westwood's Always.dat in your /data/ folders.

The problem is really with the name that is used in the server. It’s not called !scream or !death or whatever it is named by the people who created it. That’s a sensitive subject at the end of the day an if it is bothering people it should be changed.

I support this. If it's a death sound, then change the name of the string that causes it. Even if is from the game, it's abused and it's turned into something it wasn't meant to be.

Also, I think the other sound that someone referring to is a sound bite from Pulp Fiction. That can go to, doesn't belong in a video game, where there could be young folks playing.

I also disable sounds for these reasons as well. They're not fun anymore like they used to be, but annoying and abused by players.

You don't seem to realize what this guy is really saying. He gave the !rape/rape sounds as mere examples. What he really is pointing out is that any reference to rape should be banned (e.g. just typing the word as a joke). If it's the sound what bothers you (like the thread title deceivingly suggests), just make !rape silenced with !disablesounds and have sounds disabled all the time.

Why not ban words like murder and kill as well. Why just focus on one "horrific act"? Maybe you are just playing the wrong game lol. Heck,  even WW ren developers had their fun with this sort of non-PC language.

It’s not just about what the OP wrote, what the majority of the people who have responded to it are saying is that they agree !rape should at the very least have its name changed. I already have sounds disabled and have since I came back to ren over a year ago. They are stupidly annoying regardless but, again, someone spamming rape in chat is not only annoying but also offensive, especially to people who may know someone who have been taped, or have been assaulted themselves. Not rocket science. As far as sounds like the orgasm one I wouldn’t care if it stayed or went.

I know what the sound was meant for, it was meant for raping the enemy:  and now I am telling you I am the one who added in 2012. In renegade it means destroying them. Which, was exactly what I was thinking when I added !rape. It could've been a man's voice, a robot's voice, any voice...as long as it was LOUD.

If I were to put this to an ingame poll, I don't think it'd be voted off of the island. Too many use it, have used it.

I did change it, but I'm not getting rid of the other sounds...those are databased by Blacky(I'm not wrecking it). You have !togglesounds, use it.
