I dont have a cdrom on my computer so i can not install renegade from CD..

Are there any digital game stores like steam to purchase renegade?

Or what would you recommend to me?

I have my original cd of the game from old days but since i dont have cd-rom on my comp any more I dont know how I can manage to install it

I bought a new laptop 3 weeks ago, without a cd drive either.

You can download the original disk images here (and thank mass for the link), in fact, I think only the installation disk is needed. With windows 10, you can easily mount it as a virtual cd drive (no need in fancy external programs to do that anymore) by right clicking the ISO file -> mount. At the virtual CD drive, run setup.exe as administrator (right click the file -> run as administrator). Install using your original CD key.

Patch with latest scripts, you should be good to go with renlist or using direct connection as Sheila described.

Do you have an old desktop or laptop laying around that doesn't work but has a cd drive? If so, you could yank the cd drive out of it, and hook it up temporarily on your motherboard. It's ghetto but I've done it in the past :). Don't even need to mount the drive, just plug it in, stick it on a roll of duct tape, and voila! You have yourself a cd rom.

there are these external cd-rom drives that you can plug it to comp via usb as a final resort i might think of buying one of those

Those will definitely work. I own one. I paid something like 15 dollars for it on Amazon. As far as i know renegade is still available for purchase on steam, but you have to buy the whole command and conquer series with it. I think it costs more then the external rom player. But that may also be an option.

Ask for help! Anything to get more ren players around we will do :). If you get stuck with anything, just shout! If you download mIRC also here in the forums, I would help you out in live time if need be.

So sad the servers are quite empty

You are lucky if you catch one or two servers full only for a few hours in a day maybe

Back in 2004 we had thousands of players all servers full 24/7 was non stop fun

We do really need a remake of this awesome game with unique gameplay

I hope Shela's way worked for you. If not:

It's easy. Download the file, right click on it and choose "Mount". It will create a virtual drive, similar to one that is created when you put a disk in a CD drive. So windows "thinks" there is an actual drive, you can just install the game as usual.

More detailed instructions here

I'm trying to look at the bright side that we are still here after 20 years. Yesterday we had a full server, which is a rare occasion, but many evenings have enough players and we can have fun games.

There is a remake. People here are not fans of it. Not sure what's its status in terms of servers and players, I'm pretty sure original Ren is doing better.

Ye sheilas way worked great i managed to install it and joined a few servers allready looks fine :D

You mean renegade x as remake? Its a fan made remake i appreciate the effort they put on but it dont really feel like renegade

We need a professional remake that will be loyal to the original game in every detailed way

Basically the remake should be exact the same game just with updated graphics i mean like they kinda did with serious sam hd

Well you have a point, ive been away like 6-7 years and i thought this game was allready dead but im surprised it still have some amount of active community

The thing is servers have quite players only on some specific days or hours

The rest of the times they are usually empty, so i miss the good old days we used to have fun 24/7 whenever we want

The thing about renegade x. . . You move around like some floating phantom. . Like wtf is that supposed to be? The flaws of renegade imo are what sets it apart as perfect. And the balance/imbalance, there's just something there that can't be replicated. If they could have just overhauled everything for a new version of renegade, but somehow been able to keep the play style exactly the same, that would have been good. But to me, they made basically a whole new game, just using the sprites of the renegade characters.

What i think is there's a lot more of "us" out there. Like me before i came back again, just assumed the game had to have completely died by now. . It's like yeah i buy the brand new pc games that make my 2500 dollar computer cry for graphical mercy, but they just don't "feel" good. . Same reason why i don't play Playstation 4 or even 3 anymore and i went back to my snes/ps1 emulation. . .

New games haven't become better imo. . They have just become new. . Like imagine if we could get 25 v 25 all day long again. . Would anyone want to play renegade 10x if it existed?

Those of us here are the group of people who i wager have all realized. . The grass doesn't always grow greener on the other side. . And i wager there are hundreds elsewhere out there. . Who just don't realize renegade is still going on. . And thousands more who would play it for the first time, and be like "wow renegade is awesome! Where were you my whole life!"

all we need is some semi famous/famous person to get this game into their hands. Maybe retro channels or something as retro gaming is now huge again (because of people like us) . . And i really do think. . KANE WILL LIVE AGAIN! 😄 🤣

im not sure what would help renegade become populated again like in the old days

im actually happy with the original game thou the only problem is it has only a limited amount of active players 80% of the days servers are empty

if they make a remake or remastered of it then it would be a chance to return us to the fun good old days of the game

  • 6 months later...

You know, I just uninstalled Renegade for a couple days and reinstalled and it's not the simplest manoeuvre for the digital layman is it.....

1) Download Renegade iso, TT scripts 4.8, and Renlist

2) Find setup.exe in the Ren iso (the setup.exe executable doesn't work due to corrupt files) and execute it, having your serial to hand

3) Install scripts

4) Set path to game.exe (not Renegade.exe) in Renlist and enter serial again with WOL username and password.

5) Finally you can use Renlist.

Unless someone downloads it from Origin (does that include scripts?), I think the acquisition of Ren is probably the most off-putting thing for most new players.

Renlist is direct connect, open it, double click and you're in. W3d has a load time and so does Ren; renlist is instant.
