I keep reminding people about the ingame polls(and that they have until this coming Monday(which, I'll leave the polling on when the actual maps are played...I know they'll vote then)), but people aren't really voting there. Plus, you guys are going to need time to actually make the rotation.

i see there is an option about replacing dust2 in the poll. maybe i even voted for it, idk lol. just want to say that i recently had very fun games on this map when the server was more populated and i´d argue in favor of keeping it in the rotation a bit longer so people get used to it. when most people still dislike it after some time you can still get rid of it, but i think most people currently don´t like it cause they don´t know it. it´s a pretty good map once you know it imo

Little feedback:

- Arid is way too big for anything below 40 players. Plz get rid of it

- field_flying_b4 is bugged. Going in a tunnel should not make you fall through the floor, then respawn

- too many fanmaps are following eachother. I liked it more when original maps and fanmaps were kind of mixed up

Some decent new maps in there as well.

Just my feedback as well.  7-8 fanmaps in a row is a bit much.  I don't mind new maps being sprinkled in here and there between the core server maps, but the end of the rotation right now is a bit much.

I think they are trying to figure out which ones people like the most to keep if I’m not mistaken. They are trying out quite a few.

Played a few today that I didn't vote for and some I did:

Creekdale is great as expected

Field_flying_b4 is bugged apparently, where you die randomly in the tunnels, otherwise it's alright I'd say

FjordsTR = extreme nod map; too big; can't approach their base without dying to long range obelisk, and had no chance to test out strategies with MRLS (only thing that would reach) because stanks were everywhere.

SeasideCanyon allows you to build invisible MRLS (second option) which block other 'real' vehicles from coming out, so we shortly had no vehicles as GDI.

Walls_G_B5 is just Walls with bad colouring and GDI vs GDI; interesting concept though with no sbhs.

Greenery was good, like a regular map - very similar to Uphill.

yeah this is just shaitan trying to get peoples attention cause he didn´t get much response so far. also i think it´s not even bad that people can take a look at maps they might not know before they give their ideas here. it´s server rotation testing stage atm lol.

 

i agree about arid, i think it´s a bit too big and it doesn´t really fit rencorner, it just plays and feels more like a mpf map to me.

 

same i´d say for crevasse, i don´t really think it fits in the permanent rotation. might be nice to throw in with a 10 minute time limit after a 4 hour under on the weekend or so per admin decision but other than that i wouldn´t use it too much.

 

@goonhaven we had creekdale in the rotation some time ago and a significant number of  players got  annoyed by it pretty quickly. personally i think it´s ok but i could do without it, too. it´s an annoying map if your team isn´t into teamplaying very much, in that regard it´s similar to under or field.

Field_Flying/Field3/Atoll are swapped out to newer versions as of now.

I agree there are too many fan maps, the server starts competing with MPF on ground it cant win on (Fan maps) since if theres that many why not just play on MPF.

The previous rotation was good, just have that same rotation doubled with all duplicate unders & fields replaced with a fan map 

does anyone have the previous rotation so I can write out an example

I'm with UnitXc on this :-).

Walls_G_B5 is also a load of crap, tbh. The map does not feel finished at all, maps should be tested on quality before adding them?

this is basically the testing done on the main server as far as i understand, the current rotation won´t stay for long.

I had the level files corrupt on me. I was going to change the lighting and stuff but was having issues. I’m trying to work it out to get the lighting fixed specifically.

I more made that map to see if Gdi vs gdi was even fun before making more maps like it.

also as map makers there’s no where to test with multiple people ingame.

when we post maps on the forums hardly anyone ever tests them out for us.

In my experience maps that end quickly by tanks cause mass rage quits, maps that end quickly by infantry are better (e.g. Bio, Greenery, Tomb), maps that last forever (Field, Creekdale, Under) get the most players because people want to have fun and be challenged, not just win / lose game after game, which is normally the case if there are two+ tryhards on one team in a squad. These campy maps even the playing field even when teams are stacked. But I don't work full time, so perhaps I'm not the best representation of the population. I try to think in a generic way that would please everyone though.

I just know that when I have a free hour to play (which is rare) I don’t want to spend the entire time on under doing the same thing over and over again.

Guys, keep in mind that the people making the maps are in this topic, too. You can give feedback without being arses over it. Changes to them can be made, or just not used.

That was the whole point of this topic, afterall.

I have a lot of respect for map makers, it's a very hard and time consuming thing to do. I did not know anyone is still trying to make new maps so kuddos for that. That being said, one should not place them on a "production" server until they are playable. We can organize a small testing event for new maps.

There’s about 4 people currently making maps for renegade right now. We would love to have a server for testing.  It’s just hard to get people to join. Maybe if it’s made public so anyone can join to test them out it would help.

 

I know we usually don’t get a chance to test them other than by ourselves or another single person playing them which is extremely hard to do and doesn’t give us much feedback.

 

set one up and we will for sure use it.

I appreciate this comment and outlook.  It's good to get another perspective on Renegade in 2023.  The majority of my Renegade career was played on clanwars.cc and because of this the only goal that exists in my mind is to win and win faster.  I would assume this also holds true for the other "tryhards" still around.  I also do understand the rq aspect of it too.  There are still a few different factions that play together at different times of the day, and I will say that I understand the annoyance of just getting my ass handed to me game after game.  The only way to combat it is with the support of your own squad, depending on who is on.  Although, I will say when your team is able to win one in these scenarios, it sure feels good.  #GlacierFlying.  The challenge can be kind of fun.

However, after reading your post, I'm trying to look at it in a bit different tone.  Maybe it's time to start playing Renegade for fun instead of having the only goal be to win.  After all, .cc is long gone and has been for years.

I have been invited to most squads of the 'top players' before and then feel pressure to win every map. That's why I don't like them. I play for fun, and sometimes to win if I think my team stands a chance. But I don't think the only goal should be to win every map; especially since the majority of wins are when one team buys tanks and the other messes around. Or, more recently it seems like the more verbose one particular player is, the less the other team tries....

Went with the votes with 8+ people, and the rotation is rudimentary. You guys can take that, and mix it about if you can make it better(like Goz's post).

shame about Greenery, tbh I wanted to try that one out looked like it could have been good. didnt know what it was really to vote on it.

regarding the rotation I didnt really feel like we were getting anywhere. indeed we cant get anywhere unless you make a call on it, we can talk until we're blue in the face but you hold all the keys.

Most of these were tested on the server, some stayed some were removed
