Question about aiming..

Before I was unable to play in 2015 (lost internet connection) I had figured out a way that was acceptable for me to aim.   Now that I'm back I just can't rmember what that config was.  I've been experimenting but its been fairly frustrating.  My question is does any one have any recomendations on the best way to aim, esp with armored vehs?  

 

ie Should I lock veh camera to turret?  Should I be using free targeting? I just can't figure out how I had it set up before....   

 

PS I hope that this is the correct forum topic to be in...

it´s either locking camera to turret or using "v" while aiming i´d say. most people do the former

I swaped "v" to "shift", way easier to use with my small finger :D

Lock the camera to turret so you get a full 360 motion in tanks, without the need of holding V constantly(there is no benefit of the default mode at all).

Optionally use "V" for sniping/infantry, but change the button from "V" because it is in an awkward spot, I use right click which lots of snipers do, and put my secondary fire to E, and my Use button(previously E) is middle mouse click.
The only annoying thing with my setup is when I get in an orca, the cannon it my E key, so I end up quickly switching that one back if im having "an orca game"

I don't remember what turret-lock means, but definitely enable the ability to make your turret follow your mouse the full 360 arc, no reason to limit your turret to ~120 degrees.

My settings
E = Secondary fire (by default right click)
Middle mouse click = Use/PT/Enter vehicle (by default 'E')
Right click = Free Aim (by default 'V')
Shift = Crouch (by default 'C')

Its a little weird moving the E key around but, felt more natural for me, it's still better than holding V the entire time like a hooligan *cough* @InspectorGadget

I've set free aim on the side button of the mouse where my thumb rests, that way I can still use RMB to scope and keep the E key natural. Been using it this way for years and works great! That side button was a waste anyways.

I use right click for Free Aim, Q for walk and I play inverted Y axis.

What made you start playing like that, a flight sim or something?

I went to an internet cafe as a kid and the controls were inverted in San Andreas so I just stuck with it. It actually feels more accurate to aim higher by going down. At least for me.

Especially in CS games

Na, its because I used to play games without WASD, back when things used to be arrow keys, so I used to play ren with those keys too, so the E key was too far away :P
