Mines above doors = lame

We can probably make map-specific rules disallowing it. Which, will cause moderation problems: this one would most likely take way longer than the normal game-rule changing for people to get used to it.

Mines above doors have been a thing since 4.0 scripts came out. Mainly, because 4.0's mines rarely kill you when they're on the floor...as you all know.

This is normal islands, where there is mines inside the part where i am aiming at. it's not just the HD maps. u can't see them here even with ur aim u can't spot them any longer. 

 

i totally agree by a rule against those top door minings, as said in discord. i came back after a 9-10 year break, and i ran into a building and died 3 times by what ever, didn't notice it were mines, i only thought, wow buildings these days aren't mined? i can run in, boom dead. only after the third time, UksRene told me to go first person otherwise you can't see them, only that way u can disarm them. it is a real big adventage, and CAP said, that if you even place them in the right spot, you can go first person, even than u wont be able to see them. 

I want this screenshot as a statement to one of the rules "NO GLITCH OF ANY KIND IS ALLOWED". i know there is no rule saying invisible mines aren't allowed, but its a glitch and glitch abuse isn't allowed in the server. 

Therefor imo, it is only normal to make a rule against the ceiling/frame minings, because at some buildings, mines can be glitched inside them. this makes it unfair for the opposite team. and gives an huge advantage to the other.

that entrance leading to bar on glacier; since we can mine on each side without ever being able to angle disarm at all, are we going to hardcode that out too? theres certain maps with angled ramps that make it also hard/impossible to disarm, as well. idk.

edit; come to think of it, theres a fuck ton of glitched spots on glacier where they go invis.

thats why the discussion ... in glacier they would just put mines in the ceiling of bar tunnels and u can't see them, from any side and so it's glitched. GLITCHES aren't allowed as long as i can remember the rules correctly. of any kind. imo, mines should be clearly visible, flat grounds, if you put it on a stair it would be still okay, thats also more predictable that people would do that (WF stairs, for example, hon etc) . makes sense. top doors? there is no fun in that, if you go first person and you see all the mines and disarm them there might be frame mines as well which u didn't see and still die. it's just not fair. people would try more infantry rushes if the mines were on the floor. now its just suicide runs untill someone gets in alive.

ok cool.

i think watching through all the walls and beeing able to see whole map from kissing the wall is way bigger poblem.

So, there seems to be a lot of discussion surrounding this topic - but I don't see any suggested actions on how to proceed.

What is the plan? Do we poll to remove via a rule change, or do we await a server side fix?

Best is to try out a fix and see how the players respond. Not sure there’s enough people on board with this though.

i always hated above door mines, royal pain in my ass,  but at least they were repairable but if they are unrepairable thats super lame and should be gone imo

Made a plugin for that mines above doors + made some fixes against server crashes.

Here is a demonstration video of the changes that Eric recorded and has implemented on the server.

The mines no longer activate if you enter the building in the crouched position, therefore effectively reducing the aerial detection range

You can crouch to avoid getting blown up, but theres also a little extra, you can jump over the mines to not trigger them (aslong the lag wont be a bitch). I like it good job Eric :thumbsup:

This should be clearly announced as it changes game dynamics clearly and if some know it and others don't then it will give a lot of 'wtf hacker' moments.

More changes to a 20 year game....just leave it alone guys....mining above doors have been a thing for AT LEAST a decade...used to do it on jelly all the time going back to like 2014

Yes - but with TT now only activating the number of mines required rather than all of them, it is suddenly overpowered. The solution Eric has implemented restores balance to the mines.

Since this thread is already discussing mines i would like to bring up another point about them. 

All mines placed by a player immediatly disappear as soon as the miner leavs the server.  When Miner gets a dc or his game crashes that can make the whole base verry vulnerable for a short amount ot time. Losing to a unfortunate moment like this is rare but has already happened a couple of times to me and feels verry unsatisfying.

 

Maybe there is a reason for this. But if it is possible to make mines stay existing after the miner leavs it would increasy quality of RC server even more.

Pls let me know your thoughts and discuss.

 

Also i want to say Thank you to the Team and Devs for deving and keeping the Game interesting and alive.
