ithunder1 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 The other day during a game on Glacier- Nod destroyed our Power Plant with a Nuclear Strike Beacon. The Beacon was placed on the roof of the building, and I was under the impression this was not allowed. Given that I was the only player that batted an eye at what I thought was a violation of the rules- I now assume I am mistaken. I was hoping somebody could et the record straight. ''3. We do not allow Ledge beacons nor beacons on top of buildings on ANY map, except Canyon's barracks and WF(where you can jump onto back of wf).'' Does ''top of buildings'' NOT mean the roof? Or is this only referring to buildings that don't have an accessible rooftop? For example: On City, the Power Plants have staircases leading to the rooftops, but on Volcano, the Power Plants do not. So on City climbing the staircase and planting a beacon on the roof would be fine, but if you managed to get on top of the Power Plant on Volcano somehow- it would be against the rules to plant a beacon on top of the building..? I've literally been not planting beacons on roofs because I thought it was not allowed.
C4miner Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I think you're technically correct in that the stated words in that rule make it illegal to plant on top of the power plant in Glacier_Flying. That said, I also think the phrasing of that rule is ridiculous and the common interpretation is that beacons are not allowed on roofs that the developers intended to be inaccessible. Which means that accessible areas of roofs on flying maps are considered legal in that sense. I personally would never take action against a beacon planted on any developer-intended accessible roof. Now if an Apache pilot ditched his aircraft and fell into the powerplant's cooling tower and planted in there, then yeah, that's illegal and everyone should know it because there's no practical counterplay. That's gonna result in a building revive at the minimum. 1 1
iK4l3l Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Im thinking that rule means no beacons on top of buildings which are just inaccessable like on non-flying maps. It's a very common thing placing a beacon on wf, ref, hand, air or pp roof on flying maps since those places are just reachable. I have never seen an action taken by any mod when someone nuked a building roof on a flying map. Im doing this since 2003 the start of ren and it was never a problem.
ithunder1 Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 ''It's a very common thing placing a beacon on wf, ref, hand, air or pp roof on flying maps since those places are just reachable.'' It's been MANY MANY years since I played Renegade and have only been playing about a month now. I thought this rule was strange when I came to the server, because rooftops like the HON or the WF have always been some of my favorite spots to plant, but it seems that I've misinterpreted it. '' the phrasing of that rule is ridiculous and the common interpretation is that beacons are not allowed on roofs that the developers intended to be inaccessible.'' It's reasonable and makes sense that part of the building NOT intended to be accessible would be off-limits. The phrasing could be improved to be more specific, but I understand the rules of the server are meant to be short and sweet, not pages upon pages of detail.
