this game is on the verge of death, we need to save it

we should organize a petition signed by about 10k gamers and send a letter to EA linking the petition and say they should make a remake of ren

On the verge of death? There is a community playing every night, it's not even a case of you have to arrange with people to get a game going... you just show up. That's not bad considering this game is a 23 year old spin-off entry of a 90's RTS franchise.

How exactly would creating a remake of Renegade save it?

Who are these 10k gamers who would sign a petition to remake a game, a game that they don't even play any more?

If EA is interested in remaking any of the series, it's most likely going to be TibSun and RA2. Why?
- it would be a natural sequel to the Remaster Collection
- RA2 has by far the most active playerbase (based on Steam statistics)
- C&C's 30 year anniversary is in September this year, and Red Alert 2's 25th anniversary is the month after in October. It'd be perfect timing to do something special.

EA has even less incentive to remake Renegade when RenegadeX exists without costing them a penny. And did RenegadeX bring in swarms of players back? No, it did not.
I actually prefer the original anyway. I suspect I'm not alone there.

Sorry to be a downer, but nah... petitions rarely work, and I think our goal would be to get new players or bring old players back rather than create another game.

a remake like they did with serious sam hd, update the graphics but be loyal to the basics of the original game

the reason ppl arent playing ren is cuz of its 23 yrs old graphics

uhh im also not sure about this one but idk maybe we can send a message to all members of this forum and hope they will sign our petition

if i was one of the inactive members and received a message like this, that would attract me and i would give a few mins to sign the petition

A rename is a terrible idea:

- Most likely it's not going to be as good as the original. They almost never are.

- Surge of new players playing the remake till it dies out.

- Community is split between the two games. Like RenX.

- Fewer people play our beloved original version.

You are not the first one trying to initiate a letter to EA. I'm in the C&C community for 25 years, I've seen how useful they are. They are not going to be impressed by 10,000 letters. They might are impressed from how the remaster was sold quite nicely on Steam a year ago. Save your time and efforts.

renx did only update the graphics, but when u play it, idk how to describe it but it just dont feel like u r playing ren

i also prefer the original game, im actually ok with the 23 yrs old graphics. the only problem here is player counts and lack of dozens of servers being crowded 24/7 which lets u play the game whenever u want

i wish we could do this but getting new players or bringing old players back to a game with 23 yrs old graphics, i think its quite impossible and likely never gonna happen

Over the years, I've seen how much they don't care about their gaming community(ies). I stopped expecting anything from big studios as EA years ago, after reading all the promises their community relationship managers promise, only to be completely gone X months after a release of a title. It's fine, the company is in this business to make money, and the community managers stick around till a new position is opened up.

A true passion for gaming and care for their community you can only find in independent studios and developers.

A remastered version of Ren would not be our Ren only with updated graphic. You will not feel like you are playing our Ren. It's going to be different, not like RenX is different, but a different different.

Our community is in a good situation for a 23 years old game, be happy about it :)

i was also kinda aware that this would be a futile effort, while opening this topic. but just wanted to give it a try with some hope

few ideas that could bring this life.

- Monthly subscription

-Loot boxes ( like counter strike for weps) $$$

- Someone awesome use 10 Bitcoin and bring Renegade 2 back from the grave. ( maybe contact the original westwood folks and get an investment going or crowdfund project)

Renegade has really lasted well, i notice the massive big decline when World of Warcraft came out. Now there a lot of bigger titled games that seem to attract the younger crowd.

i think Tibrium Sun has a more successful chase if they can turn it into renegade.

Itai795's points pretty much sum it up.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never known any game to make a comeback. Every game either dies out, or has a small community that just keeps going. Renegade is the latter.

Elite, XCOM are examples of old games that had an active community, miraculously the franchise got a new title, and the community moved on to the new titles (I don't really know the details there, I'm sure there are still people who prefer the old games).

As for a remastered version (not a new title) - of an active old game that its community moved to the remastered version - these are harder to find. Perhaps Age of Empires 2.

I get the idea, I like the idea, but the reality is, EA is done with this franchise, for better or for worse. And if for any reason they did pick it up again, there's no way they would produce anything we'd recognize or like.

This community does pretty well for itself. Let's share some kebabs and be thankful for that!

What I meant was, any old game that tapered off then  got players back. Not a remaster or remake, the original game gained players again. I don't think I've ever seen that happen.

There are examples... Most notably is Transport Tycoon (1994) that gained a lot of popularity once the community driven, open source, version (2004 with updates till today) was released.

Ask rockstar games to make renegade they are in Edinburgh

Instead of spending your money on your daily 50 Big Macs, you could instead use the money to steam-gift Renegade to random people so you bring more players in!! How about that marvelous idea!! :bananallama:

Benefits:

  1. You'll be making Ren more active
  2. You'll be improving your health
  3. You'll save the pain to write a long-ass letter to EA which they'll ignore anyway

BTW, iK4L3l: Where's Tati haha?

I suppose that kinda counts. Just like OpenRCT2 requires people to have the original RCT2 game, so it supports the dev.

I do actually think it's possible to get more players for Ren, but there's a few considerations and hurdles needed to overcome. The Tiberium Rise project kinda died down too because it relies on existing players, and we're mostly all grown men with jobs and lives and lack of youthful zeal lol

Hey, you're probably closer to Edinburgh. I'm in the northern isles.

EA will never make a Renegade 2. The only chance of anything positive happening to CnC universe would be EA selling the franchise to a smaller studio that cared. But that will probably never happen.

I don’t know how many remember, but when Westwood Studios got bought out by EA, that was the end of CnC as we knew it. The games were only about profit, not quality. It was all downhill from there

I like to believe the effort to advertise renegade at the same time as the steam release was somewhat successful. I sent manual mails to a lot of people on renforums. Many mails were inactive but some players came back. Crush did the same for clan wars players. A guide and YouTube video explain how to get online. Sur people didn't come back by the hundreds but we had some success. The real hard part is to attract new players that never tried it before. The whole install process makes things hard to start with.

I left the game about that period because I didn't like the Gamespy plateform.. Too ugly lol

Since TT patch isnt official its hard to attract new people. Steam make it even worse since it have custom app folder a mostly people dont know where its placed. Original iso require cdkey so there is only way a custom installer which we have just its not promoted publicly because its considered as warez software and ren is not free.
