iK4l3l Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) In 2004 dozens of servers were crowded 24/7.. Im bored, I can not sleep? No matter what time it is, np! Just pick a server, join, play Ren and have fun.. Look at it now, 2026 at 8PM and we can not have enough players even on a single server, PATHETIC! 80% of the day server is just plain empty.. We rly need EA to remake Ren and resurrect it! Maybe next year in 25th anniversary, do u think they would do it? Edited March 4 by iK4l3l
Xylaquin Posted March 6 Posted March 6 No. - What are they going to do? - EA are not renowned for being a force for good. You also gotta consider timezones. When it's 8pm in Turkey it's only 5pm in the UK, and it's between 9am-12midday in the US. --- If you want to get more players, we'd need to do two things: - Make a concerted effort to advertise There was a project a couple years back called Tiberium Rise which set out to bring back old players as well as draw in new ones. The plan was to tackle making Renegade easily buyable, make onboarding easy (understanding how to play/the quirks of multiplayer), revive the forums, get gameplay and promotional videos rolling out and advertise with social media. I can't tell how successful it was in that, someone playing before and after the project possibly could, but a modest effort was definitely made. The momentum tapered off, I reckon, because we're all grown adults with lives and other commitments. That's my theory at least. - Quality of Life improvements Like massively trimming the fat from the chat feed to massively improve communication, disabling the obnoxious sounds by default, making voting mandatory after 20 seconds, etc etc. I have put forward my case for each of these but there's always some excuse or push-back, which I respond to... but nothing ever happens. --- Ultimately though, one has to accept we're playing an old game. On top of that, it's part of an RTS franchise, so if you were to tell someone new about C&C Renegade you'd forgive them for thinking it's an RTS. But on that note, being part of a bigger franchise can work against a game. For example if you were browsing a selection of games in a store, would you choose to pick out "Game Example 4", wouldn't you think "hmm, I've not played the first three games".
tw1x Posted March 6 Posted March 6 The downfall of CnC was EA. Westwood studios was incredible until the buyout. After the buyout, real support for games ended and the new product was shittier. It’s why all EA does now is basically remaster the franchise. Easy money, no real cost needed
Goztow Posted March 7 Posted March 7 The last big inflow was the release of the c and c collection on steam. events, promotion on socials and ultimately releasing renegade for free could help.
Xylaquin Posted March 7 Posted March 7 (edited) Plus, whenever I see someone mention C&C Renegade on Reddit or some other public platform, there's ALWAYS some guy there saying "hey check out Renegade X". I do wonder if that works against us sometimes. To someone completely new, they're faced with a choice between a modern and free remake vs the original game which you need to buy as part of a pack. Renegade X was a big mistake.. Not only it does not feel anything like Renegade, I am afraid it also might be one of the reasons EA is not willing to remake Renegade!
Xylaquin Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Nah, even if Renegade X didn't exist, EA would not remake Renegade. A company will only invest in doing a remake of something if there's a big enough market for it and money to be made. If anything, the amount of people playing Renegade X, a free game, proves there isn't a market for a remake. More to the point- it's not a remake we want, it's a resurgence.

Xylaquin Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I could point out the flaw in that theory, but again: we don't want a remake. We want a resurgence. After all, the original game is official and loyal to the original gameplay haha.

xhadesx Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I feel the main reason theres still some Ren players, comes down to Nostalgia, Its pretty hard for a 20+ year old game to compete with the new games out there in terms of Graphics, ease of setup, features etc. I Agree with Xylaquin, someone completely new to Ren needs to take a chance and buy a pack they also wouldnt know to download TT Scripts
tw1x Posted March 9 Posted March 9 (edited) I said it when I came back and I’ll say it again. The only way EA helps renegade is if when they do their next cnc bundle they include the Tiberium technologies patch into the game. I got lucky because crushu06 told me how to play. Theres no telling how many older players never look deep to figure out how to play after purchasing the game. Edited March 9 by tw1x 1
