gamerlink reprimands

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I noticed that my son gamerlink got reprimanded for team hampering today on C&C_Uphill. It looks like he lost multiple Hum-Vees in a row and allowed the enemy to capture them. Sorry to cncfan and the rest who were playing with him.

I wanted to let everyone know that he is 6 and a half years old. He is reading a little but not enough to keep up with the chat. He is still learning and loves to play because he watches myself and his brothers. At no point has he actively tried to hamper the team.

I'd like for him to be able to improve without causing a disproportionate effect on his team. I'm looking for input from all of you in the community for what the best option would be. For example:

  1. Only allow him to play when there are 30 or more players (so that his low skill doesn't hamper the team too much)
  2. Limit his turns on RenCorner to 30 minutes or less (right now his turn is 60 minutes)
  3. Make him play mostly on co-op servers to practice more

I want him to have fun on Renegade, which I've been playing since I was a child, but I also want to respect this community and make sure he isn't dragging down the fun for everyone. (And to be clear, he has never been banned, but I wanted to start this topic before that ever happens)

Once again, please accept my apologies for any annoyance that has been caused. And for what it's worth, he sometimes pulls off something nice, like last week when he pulled off a successful beacon on C&C Uphill (see timestamped video 45:55):

Clarify that gamerlink is not actually banned, just reprimanded

Thanks for letting us know!

My suggestion: we shouldn't restrict him. We have players that don't contribute much to the team effort. It's not new, it's a public server, and no rules against it, no matter how it can be annoying. According to your description, it's not even that he messes around (like driving the vehicles around the base as it was a Need For Speed, then leaving them unattended for the enemy to steal), it's just poor Ren skills (driving a hummer to the enemy, making a capturable shell). That's understandable. At least your son has a good reason for that, I've seen enough players without ones.

That's correct, I saw it over his should on the last instance. He was getting killed and they repaired his shell. I told him that he needs to kill the shell if enemies are nearby, but he was too late.

I agree with cnc. We need all the new blood we can get!

Thank you both for responding. I'll tell him he can continue to play. He will be very happy to hear it.

I will keep tutoring him so that improves over time.
