Seems like you currently like drums, maybe focus on guitar, or piano, I like the bass Guitar myself. Google who the best musicians are for that instrument and try their music. If you really want to appreciate music for the music, you got to be able to hear every instrument, then you can judge if they play with talent or not.. Since you like Rap and hip-hop, maybe go old school and try some blues. Ray Charles is a good place to start, never met anyone that didn't like him.
