BiLLaBoNg Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I currently have this. I am thinking of getting this.Curious if you guys think it is worth it? I know a decent amount about computers, but not everything as some of you do.
Joetorp Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 1st thing I see is you are going from a quad core to a dual core. The speed difference in negligible. Your cache is 1 mb less. You are getting better graphics and larger screen! The HD is 5400 rpm, 7200 rpm would be better. Your battery is of a higher capacity so that is a plus. The Acer is loaded with software, and probably a lot of crapware. It is probably a better machine, also a few pounds heavier, but looking down the road 4 or 5 years, I wouldn't care for a dual core when I had a quad core. So I don't know... Just some thoughts. Joe
BiLLaBoNg Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Thanks for that, Joe. I don't usually play hardcore computer games with intense graphics (Usually stick to RC's server games) but I wanted to try out Crysis 3 with my current laptop and it would overheat constantly after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay even with low graphics. Sometimes it overheated just being on Ren, TS, and listening to music, too. Which has brought me to where I am. The 16 GB Ram and i5 and 2 GB Video Memory for $799 really caught my eye the most.
Syndicate Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Gosh billa if you can get 16gb ram and 2bg video memory for under 1k you should really be scouting that. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
BiLLaBoNg Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 My laptop isn't even a year old.. But that price! Haha. I'll most likely get it, Syndicate. Only downside is Windows 8. 1
BiLLaBoNg Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 I'll probably be doing that, as long as Tiny helps me haha
DrSithis Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Do a lovely favor and send me your own one.
vlatkozelka Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 My laptop isn't even a year old.. But that price! Haha. I'll most likely get it, Syndicate. Only downside is Windows 8. well i have the nvidia geforce GT 630M on mine (hp) and it plays crysis 3 with custom settings (very high res textures , low shaders and shadows, high paricles and effects...) and i bought it for 1000$ the 710M isn't better than the 630M , cuz it's based on older gpu but with some "tweaks" to power consumption and heating problems ... 630M >710M http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1250&gid2=594&compare=geforce-710m-vs-geforce-gt-630m not sure how to compare amd to intel cuz i know nothing about amd CPUs but some new games make advantage of number of threads especially crysis 3 , so quad could be better than dual in this case (could be wrong here) i dont think the display is that good , and i don't think the vga can handle games at that resolution anyway , it would struggle at usual 1360*768 the 630M does so this should fair no better. besides , new gen games are coming out soon and no one knows what kind of graphics will they have (new engines and shit) so we might all have to throw our pc away id rather wait a bit cuz these new games will make pple have to buy new better pc and vga so older ones should become cheaper pretty fast. conclusion : the price isn't really that good imo , it's just ... fair enough :v PS : crysis 3 is VERY GOOD graphics , i actually couldnt wach tv after it gameplay isnt really worth it , only graphics are 1
pooponu Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Wow thanks for showing this i think im getting an acer just like this, with the processor the graphics card and the harddrive i really think this is worth it since 1 like this that is alienware is probably $1800.00 (no i wasn't thinking of getting an alienware either because they're overpriced and underworked lol..... alienwares dont have a good cooling system. 1
