Shadow Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Been working hard at a part time job past year along with uni and now that I've got a nice amount of money saved decided after 7 years I would finally upgrade my desktop. Coming from an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 4gb DDR2 ram, Nvidia GTX260 piece of shit to this, can't wait Really tempted to get a 4k monitor as well 1
Lucky Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Congratz But imo you spent more than you should have on the graphics. But its a beast none the less.
Shadow Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 I was just going to go for a single GTX980 but it turned out 2 GTX970's was like only £30 more ($45) so just went with them and the Titan is just a ridiculous amount of money and isn't even that special compared to the latest 900 series cards :s

Shadow Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 Should have spent more money, why not be an asshole, like me, and buy a Titan Z, like I did, and brag about how you wasted money on something that'll burn out one day? hah was tempting indeed, but I had a max price I was willing to pay in mind before I started and believe me I had a 6 core i7 chosen and all this shit but then i stepped back and looked at the realistic price to performance ratios and readjusted to make sure i was under my original budget :L nice question dodge shadow: so does this mean you are back? I've never truly left, I still login to forums every so often to see whats happening. Running a MInecraft server for so long took away the magic/discovery elements of that game and just sort of ruined it for me, so I can't ever see myself returning to the game as a player, however Linux does intrigue me and I will be working with it quite extensively come June for a placement job I've got with IBM through University, so working with the Minecraft server could be good experience for that. Never say never
PhoenixSouls Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 When you venture into 4k for gaming watch this first..... make sure you know what you're getting yourself into... Invest in something else like ram or a ssd or something.. instead of a 4k.. not a lot of 4k content to begin with as well by the way..
vlatkozelka Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 When you venture into 4k for gaming watch this first..... make sure you know what you're getting yourself into... Invest in something else like ram or a ssd or something.. instead of a 4k.. not a lot of 4k content to begin with as well by the way.. not alot of content ? most games support 4K now and NVidia's last driver update include DSR which is forcing any game to render at 4K , have u ever tried to emulate a PS1 game on a good PC ? those games used to render at very low res and still u could now make them do full HD . Even renegade looks surprisingly better than it did back in the day . also , recently all games have this ultra textures setting that needs 6GB of VRAM to run like shadow of mordor , far cry 4 ... AC unity might not even run well on PC as good as this . not to mention that at 4K u wont need heavy AA to remove jagged edges since there wont be any to start with . PC gaming improves way faster than you think .They dont really take that long between testing a new thing and then BOOM everyone has to use it . although u could be talking about 4K movies then thats another storie , but fuck movies anyways : PC games ftw
ice187dna Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 pcspecialist.co.uk I assume. I got my pc from there and it's still going after 4 years??? I'm keeping the case but updating a few bits though. I'm going from this: Processor (CPU) AMD PHENOM II X2 565 (3.40GHz/6MB CACHE/AM3) - BLACK EDITION Motherboard ASUS® CROSSHAIR IV EXTREME: DDR3, USB 3.0, SATA 6.0Gb/s, R.O GAMERS Memory (RAM) 4GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 2GB) to this: CPU CPU Family Intel Core i7 Processor Number 4790K CPU Speed 4.0 GHz Memory Description Kingston HyperX Savage Memory Size (Total) 16384 MB Memory Type DDR3 Memory Speed 2133 MHz Number of Modules 2 module(s) Motherboard Form Factor ATX SATA Connectors 4x SATA 6Gb/s Connectors & 1x M.2 Socket 3 (2260/2280) I'm only getting these to put me on for the time being then I want to upgrade to something better. Then in a few months time I'm going to get a better graphics card and a SSD and SSHD which is a solid state and hard disk drive in one, a hybrid. Runs slower than a sold state but much faster than a hard disk. Then hopefully that should be oh yeah and Windows 10 too...possibly a 2nd monitor too. Update: Being delivered today, I can't wait
SovietWolf Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Very nice! I just updgraded from a 560ti to a 970 and threw in an SSD. Love the upgrades so far. Thinking of an after market cooling to OC a little bit from the 3.2Ghz im running on the AMD PhenomII x6.
