woolwind Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 The results were striking. “Men who were of lower skill were more positive towards men and more negative towards women,” Kasumovic says, remarking on the kinds of comments made towards the study’s players. “But the really neat result is that when men were of higher skill, they were much more positive to women.” http://www.wired.com/2015/07/gamers-troll-women-literally-losers/ 2
n0dfl4m3r Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Link broken for me just now. The gamer 'archetype' though is males, driven by the well established demographic of gamers. Those of lower skill might develop some sort of inferiority complex when playing against a non-archetypal (female) player who they feel they should be better than. Humans are weird. None of this applies to Renegade though, where everybody "hax" and everyone else is a "n00b".
Volcom Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Interesting article. We should test this in trivia! 1

PixelBitZombie Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Without reading i already knew by reading the first few lines. Essentially it comes down to players with skill want to help, most of the time no matter the gender. Vise versa, players without skill, they don't want to be beat, especially by a woman. Then you have the hateful remarks and wanting to "get rid of" part. Funny. I feel like this really only pertains to FPS games, go look at Twitch with females "who aren't trying to get attention with almost tits showing and skanky clothes" you'll see most males respect women who do play. While in regards to that, obviously the nasty shit stain males will write degrading comments. I only see horrible stuff when playing or watching FPS games because its competitive. The other day I was in counterstrike source, funny enough I woman was shit talking 3 guys and 1 other woman. She was fixing to get crushed and all you heard over the mic was "no no no no, please don't. I won't kill you I promise". Then you hear "UGH you fucking prick, piece of shit". 2
MrSetharoo Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) I respect gamers who happen to be female but then there's the cord biting in provocative way bad Instagram filter selfie "gamer" girls that I can't stand because they make the the female demographic look bad. Also any one that trolls anyone is a loser regardless of their skills. Edited July 24, 2015 by MrSetharoo 1
AnThRaX Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Everyone that plays video games is a loser, that's what I was told.
woolwind Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 It should become a truism. "Everyone knows, if you are acting like a dick it's because you know you suck at this game." Just keep saying it
RnD Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 People care about gender in gaming? When the hell did this crap start? Oh right, when I play games I have priorities like actually playing. -RnD
AnThRaX Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 It's brutal especially when you are playing counterstrike or call of duty. Dudes just can't handle getting shit on by girls. One of my ex-gf used to enjoy playing video games here and there and it was always ridiculous to hear the things people would say like dude why you so mad? hahah
MrSetharoo Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 People care about gender in gaming? When the hell did this crap start? Oh right, when I play games I have priorities like actually playing. -RnD It happens quite a bit but its mostly on games like console based online shooters because that's where the majority of.... "dude bros" and little kids play and those are the type that usually start shit with women for no real reason other than to show off to the other guys.
