Goztow Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I'm not 100 % sure how the algorythm that determines the rank is created. Is it based don the WOL ladder points or on a specific algorythem? Anyway, I noticed a bit of a side effect of the ranks. The idea behind marathon mode is mainly to force players to kill buildings rather than to "camp" for points. However, I'm under the impression that some players who value the server rank (made obvious as it's a tag on the player) tend to keep going for points. This has occured to me on a game of field. GDI had only barracks left, Nod had everything left and clearly had the upperhand. 3 or 4 players kept repairing the barracks (all were clearly common players, no newbies that just passed by) for the remaining 15 minutes or so. This is just one example, I'm sure there will be others, where someone might choose to sit in an art all game long rather than to participate in a rush. i'm not quite sure how to handle this... or if it needs handling at all. I mainly wanted to ask if you guys noticed similar behaviour?
n0dfl4m3r Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) This is classic pointwhoring and is an unfortunate side effect of the way the points system was designed by Westwood. It's been happening since the dawn of time. I've certainly noticed it for years. Every player is distributed between 0 and 2000 points and then some kid in an arty that's afk hitting the side of the wf all game is at 6000. You can check the server ladder on this site, I'm on my phone otherwise I'd link you it. It's based entirely on points as far as I know. Edited August 18, 2015 by n0dfl4m3r
Volcom Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 It's based on rank points not points, so there are a number of factors that increase your rank. Big ones being rep ping buildings and team mates tanks.
Lucky Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 It's based on rank points not points, so there are a number of factors that increase your rank. Big ones being rep ping buildings and team mates tanks. Rank points are merely for show off, i just checked it. I am ranked 13 while my rank points are less than many other players in the top 50. Currently its just about scores, however in the past, you could add filters to see the ranks in different prospects like most kills or most games.
Blacky Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 The following things currently give you a "rank point" <cvar name="scorePerRankPoint" value="500"/> <cvar name="killsPerRankPoint" value="5"/> <cvar name="deathsPerMinusRankPoint" value="5"/> <cvar name="buildingKillsPerRankPoint" value="1"/> <cvar name="buildingRepairPerRankPoint" value="1200"/> <cvar name="vehicleKillsPerRankPoint" value="3"/> <cvar name="vehicleRepairPerRankPoint" value="900"/>
Blacky Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 The ranks are currently set by score <!-- Ranking Mode 1 = AOW, ranked by Score 2 = Snipe, ranked by Kills 3 = Snipe, ranked by K/D 4 = Rank Points - See settings below --> <cvar name="rankMode" value="1"/> Not sure when it got changed.
Goztow Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 May I propose to put it back to rank points and explain how they are calculated on the ranks page?
ehh Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 arent there set by all time too? be nice if it was monthly
shaitan Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 It is monthly, when temp rank is reset on time. We have the overall !rank and !temprank.
Volcom Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I'm think we should switch to rank points if it some how got switched off from it.
BeerBaron Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 the http://rencorner.ca/Ladder/Marathon/Overall/ is sorted first by points
miatachris90 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Don't like the top 2 ranks being OSTK huh? Lol
