"And nobody can buy weapons"

What happened to the second amendment?

From this point we should redirect everything to ehh's post, I don't think it can be explained easier or in a more educated and nicer way.

Well Volcom just did.

What post? Who's ehh?

About Time. Jelly now has to pay the Bill for the problems it caused in the past and the godlike behaviour many people of the stuff showed against their users over the years. Even tho its sad to loose another Server, thats right, but i wont drop a tear for Jelly as a Community.

Maybe it's just me then.

It's unlike you Americans to be so sentimental, it's normally the domain of us Brits.

I don't recall Jelly ever closing down in 'honor' of another server closing. I've played enough commwars against Jelly to know that no quarter was ever asked for nor any given. Personally I've never played there and have no respect for them. Particularly since they cheated against me in RGCT2 and then lied to cover it up. (which Volcom will remember).

As far as I'm concerned, if they're closing down, it's their own fault because they failed.

Maybe it's because i've been a soldier and experienced war in real life but I can't feel sympathy for them, victory is everything. Their closing feels like a victory to me. I'm not saying I don't respect what Jelly achieved, far from it, I just don't see why Rencorner players have to be deprived of their game just because Jelly failed.

Gumby

Out of all the Renegade people I've talked to Gumby, you're one of the most memorable.  You're an extremely intelligent and likable guy, but in this case I think your take on the Jelly Community is not an accurate one.  You never played on the actual server, which is a shame because the teamwork you would experience on an everyday basis was huge and the games were oftentimes very memorable.  Jelly, to my knowledge, has not shut down in the past when other servers went down, and for Volcom to make that gesture towards us was huge to me.  It's not that Jelly was above doing it - it was more that Jelly didn't have enough ties with the other communities at the time to really know what was going on.  I remember when Black-Cell went down in either 2007 or 2008, and years later when n00bless closed its doors.  The n00bstories server went down in 2013, but Jelly had no real ties with them.  Had the Exodus split never happened and n00bstories sorted out its internal issues and remained a heavyweight server (not a pun towards Crimson) it may have been a different story.

I recall two times where Jelly teams played against n00bless in organized games, one where the Jelly side was pretty nasty and rude towards your players.  I did apologize infinitely afterwards, and I know Hex was pissed beyond words.  The reason it was never settled was because there was no forum mention of it on Jelly - the team you played was a Jelly AOW 1 team, organized in a private forum, from an internal Jelly tournament.  The Ren-Archive AOW server, Ren-Archive Marathon, Jelly AOW 1, Jelly Mappack, and Jelly AOW Mini servers were all doing battle and had their own respective private forums to do so.  I thought I would get my AOW 1 team some practice by playing against other servers, and n00bless was more than happy to engage in a funwar on their server.  The problem was the server was not set up properly, and everyone was forced to wait 30 to 45 minutes while IC3MAN77 guy attempted to fix it.  The Jelly team, many of them overly competitive and/or clanwars.cc guys, started to badmouth the parachutes and custom sounds on the server because they were mad about waiting.  Rather than just wait patiently, they were rude and douching on n00bless, and the n00bless players just sat there in silence for the most part.  They neither deserved that, nor did they do anything to provoke it, and even though it was something like 6 years ago I'm still sorry it happened.  I asked Hex to !atm me so I could mute the guys myself, but he opted not to and they continued to say rude and immature crap in all-chat.  Once the games finally started, the 30-minute-long buffer maps in between actual maps began, and that made the impatient Jelly players even more impatient and bitter.  Jelly won the first 2 games after maybe 2 and a half hours had gone by, but then another 30-minute buffer map began, and a huge chunk of the Jelly team straight up left the server.  When the game started it was 15 vs. 10, and the Jelly team held on for a very long time before tainted92 or someone else finally slipped through the tunnel with a Tech and killed the Power Plant or something.  Not sure how or why I remember, but Jelly was GDI on that map (Walls), and the first map where we waited for what seemed like forever was City_Flying.  After several more minutes n00bless destroyed the rest of the base, and the remaining Jelly players, save 3 of them, left the server, leaving it at 3 vs. 15.  The final two games went very quickly, ending the series 3 to 2 for n00bless.  The players you saw in that game are not an accurate representation of what Jelly Games was, because it was a hand-picked group of the scariest Jelly 1 players to be found with the sole intention of crushing the opposition.  The other teams in that Jelly inner tournament got squashed when they played Jelly 1, for the record.  The discussion afterwards was very bitter in the Jelly AOW 1 private forum, but Hex and every other n00bless was unable to weigh in on it because as far as the Jelly community knew the match never took place.  It was undercover and top secret, Level 10 style.

The second time I recall Jelly playing against n00bless was in the RGCT2, which you recall very well because of the third map (again, Walls).  I played in the first two games, and they went without incident.  I couldn't tell you what maps they were, but I know that Jelly won them.  After that, I headed out to do something else, and everything afterwards was without me present.  On that third map, HTMN47 was kicked from the server and unable to rejoin on his same nickname (another weird FDS glitch that was happening around that time), so he had to join on another one.  Jelly was able to kill either the n00bless Refinery or Power Plant early on, and as a result the n00bless team was unable to purchase high characters and their basic infantry got roughed up when GDI did.  HTMN was up top sniping on his unknown name and got close to 50 kills, which made the n00bless team furious thinking he was some random player cheating his ass off.  The truth of the matter is, HTMN is one of the most capable Renegade players I've ever seen and wouldn't need to cheat to kill free infantry with a ramjet.  He's done far worse with a 500 sniper on Complex games, keeping the entire Nod team from getting into its vehicles and single-handedly fucking the game up with headshots.  The other issue was with the player Capricorn sniping characters in the Hand of Nod and how it was done.  This was the heavily contested issue, and I went back and forth on it several times myself.  The Havoc was standing on the right side of the map (this is Walls, remember), sort of out where the crate spawns but closer to the GDI base.  Nod repair people inside the HON were lag-ghosting up the ramp into the back windowed corner of the building, which is clearly visible from that position in the field.  Players on the n00bless Teamspeak complained they were being killed behind or through walls, and that's because on their screens they were.  Renegade hits are client-based game, which is why cheats like RGH's spectate mode were so effective.  When players would kill enemies in spectate mode, it would show them firing into the floor or in random directions, but players would legitimately drop dead elsewhere on the map.  This sort of cheat does not work in other first person shooters because hits are calculated server-side.  In this case, the player saw Nod infantry drifting up into the corner and just kept shooting them, not realizing they were lag ghosting from elsewhere.  This same glitch was most often encountered on City or City_Flying games up on the bridge, when enemy soldiers would be seen walking in straight lines along the end of the bridge but were actually back in their own bases.  That happening on Walls is an uncommon place for it, but older players have seen it before (even though I had not seen or heard of it, prior to that incident).  Hex went through the server logs and player coordinates and posted a screenshot of where Capricorn was when the questionable kills occurred, and from the looks of his pictures the player was cheating (standing in front of the GDI base with a Havoc).  Whether he did it intentionally or not, Hex inadvertently framed the player because the Havoc was actually aiming exactly where the testimony claimed - into the Hand of Nod window, up in the corner.  His screenshots did not show this, and were looking at the Havoc instead of looking where the Havoc was looking.  When the position was shown again from the Havoc's point of view, the gun was pointing where Capricorn said it was.  Had the kills been done with RGH, the Havoc would not have been aiming exactly up at that HON corner through the window.  When you say lies covered everything up, I'm not remembering that part at all.  If I honestly thought the player had been cheating, I would say so now.  All of the evidence suggests it was just another Renegade bug, of which there are more than I can count.  The player never did anything questionable on the Jelly servers in the hundreds of games played, and were it an actual case of cheating it would have required Capricorn to figure out exactly how RGH worked without prior knowledge, use it on only this specific map, in this specific game series, go to that specific spot and spectate kill only players in that specific building (though that doesn't explain why the Havoc was shown aiming at the known lag ghost spot for every single kill).  The amount of Renegade knowledge involved to make that happen and the circumstances around it are infinitesimal, and it would also mean the server bot was wrong and magically reporting the player firing where the player said they were firing and killing enemy soldiers.  It just doesn't add up - if there's anything I missed, please tell me.  Jelly does not (or did not) condone cheating, and we were the first community to come forward when a player of our own was caught cheating in an organized match back when BIATCH was first implemented.  There's no honor in winning at something when the win was achieved by such means, and it's never been the Jelly way.

Regarding Renegade servers, when you say Jelly failed, you are entirely correct.  The staff let its players down by not better managing the server and having moderators present to keep games going smoothly.  As I said in the other topic, the ship was left unmanned for far too long and eventually fell to ruin.  Players left for RenCorner and MPF, which actually moderated and updated their servers and kept up with the times.  As far as I'm concerned, former Jelly players and Renegade players in general are in good hands if they play at RenCorner.  That's a victory to me, that the game is able to live on and players have a new home to go to.  Thank you for being strong when we were weak and succeeding where we failed - it's the best thing for Renegade, and I hope it is able to continue surviving for years to come.

I think this is the largest Renegade post I've ever written, perhaps even larger than the ones with Spoony during the pointmod / pointfix debates back in the day.  Have a nice day.

Nice wall of text Liquid, look above your avatar. :haha:

Charlie, you know I still love you, right?

I'm really too choked up to reply properly after all those memories you just brought flooding back.

I hope you come and play some Renegade here at Rencorner and if you need a good repair bitch give me a shout.

Regarding Capricorn, I've still got the IRC logs from your conversations with Hex and don't forget I was there and I know the truth.

Anyways, maybe I'm just a bitter old man towards Jelly because of that but it's all history now. Hope to see you around this place in future.

Gumby

P.S. n00bless closed down in December 2010 (for your historical records).

I don't remember the logs with Hex but you should PM them to me - I'm now curious.  From what I remember the conversations took place before the screen shots and player positions were brought to light and the situation was fully laid out.

I think your only encounters with Jelly were horrible and not at all indicative of what the community as a whole was actually like - the first was a bunch of rude Reneserious hooligans meandering around on your fun war server, and the second left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth.  I don't blame you for your perspective or recollections because it's all you were given, but I think you would have had fun if you'd ever stopped in during the glory days.  The Jelly AOW 1 server (my home in Renegade) didn't last much longer than n00bless, because Jelly Marathon pretty gobbled that up too months later.

You'll be seeing me around at some point - and for the record I'm not Spoony Jr because I didn't have over 9,000 separate quotes in my post.

This can only be settled with a 2v2. Liquid and I will go against Gumby and Volcom (or Whiskey as alternate, provided volcom is eating pizza) Don't need paragraphs just a trusty pistol (no shotgun) and c4 in hand

Too bad cupcake, your wall of text denotes a smidgen of Spoonyness about you. :pbbfft:

Wow, that was a lot of reading. I actually remember quite a lot of what was said there. The most vivid being Capricorn cheating. We went through server logs and found coordinates when the shots were fired. Was a shitty, unfortunate situation. It's all in the past now. I look forward to gaming with you guys in the future!

I remember the video of him 'snapping' now.

He wasn't the only one cheating during that tournament however.
