Money tournament.

So I was thinking about how renegade is in a state of decay and how to best prevent it. Since money always seems to get peoples attention what if rencorner hosted paying tournaments with an entry fee? We could promote it accross the forums that are still around, maybe have a monthly thing. This is kinda how chess keeps itself relevant these days. It might even attract new players if we could reach the right people. Maybe it could be organized through a paypal and write up an agreement/contract for people to sign outlining the rules and outcomes for pay. Have a guranteed minimum pot or make it a percentage of winnings that go to the host of the tournament and the rest is divvied up between 1st 2nd and 3rd.  It could be anything from a 2v2 to a 10v10 (though I dont know how realistic that would be). Any thoughts?

That will never work, nobody is ever going to pay to play on a server.

I disagree because people will pay if they have money to win. Otherwise there wouldnt be any competitive tournaments. Its just a matter of math.

You know what, it is not THAT farfetched actually... RenCorner used to have giveaway prizes for people playing on the server, it could be similar but the prize could go to the winner of a bracket tournament (could be 2v2 cw.cc style or anything else really) and participation would be on a donation basis (say donate 10$ to join the tournament). If we give away some really nice game like DOOM idk... I'm pretty sure a lot of folks would be enticed to participate.

Personally, you want to give out cash and take a portion for donations. The way the payout typically works is on a 60% or 70% payout scale. So rencorner gets 40% or 30% and the rest is divvied up between 1st 2nd and 3rd or you can make it just between 1st and 2nd. 

So lets say entry fee is 10$/player/team (2v2 20$ team entry fee) and we get 10 teams, under 70/30 it would be 60$ to rencorner  $95 for 1st place $45 for 2nd place ect. 

 

The only factor I dont know is how many people would get signed up but Iv seen free tournaments in the past get these numbers. If you got up to 40 ppl involved the prize for first could be 190$ which im sure is attractive.

while its true putting money on anything makes it more enjoyable, your plan would actually be really hard to organize. that being said, ANY tournment style structure is going to not only make people happy, it will make the match more competative.

what we could have WITHOUT any fancy or elaborate setup is the time honored tradition of side bets. player x is talking junk to player y, player y finally says 'SHUT UP OR NUT UP, 5$ THAT MY TEAM WINS', funness ensues. the concept of side betting is actually less about the dollar amount and more about making the person you're betting against eat crow.

also this idea he's proposing ISNT pay for play. its a tournment idea with money on the line. could we even? will the nsa send banhammers for combining the fun of ren and gambling and making it into a superpower of fun? would the actual legal red tape become too confusing for as all? im glad you brought it up but the idea definetly needs much more spit shine and polish

LIES AND SLANDER! ren is eternal and even talk of 'decay' is punishable with 40 lashes from General Kane. no exceptions even for commanding officers. even SBH. Kane will find you and he will LASH you.

I would gladly throw $10 in to join a 3v3 style tourney, whether AOW or snipe. I don't think it would attract new players to Renegade, let's not get out of hand, but it will definitely bring money into RenCorner

Well theres places you can promote these kinds of things, other gaming forums like xwis or ea, competitive gaming forums. ect. I mean it might not work out at all, just thought Id like to see if we can at least generate some interest here AND if rencorner is willing to host it.

gambling monetarily incentivizes game outcomes. thats cut and dry.


what im thinking is new players would be shittin brix if they joined thier first game of ren and IRC is busy trying to keep track of who made which ridiculous sidebet.

its not even like a lame 2 person sidebet  where the person can slide out of it by being like 'no one else heard us make it tho'. many will see it. No Bluffin tho. if you make a sidebet you have to honor the loss. and conversely if you were to propose one you cant be kidding about it. cos thats also bluffin.
