appshot Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 if tanks have unlimited ammo why can't infantry????? #Logic101 Renegade is a infantry/tank game for a reason. If it was just tanks go play World of Tanks or sum other bullshitÂ

warlord83 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 It would be cool to have limited ammo tanks if there were ammo trucks that could refill them in field. otherwise leave my tanks alone.

Because developers are still playing and have a big say? Nice logic. There have been numerous beneficial changes made which the developers didn't sought out or didn't fix/think through since the game's release. If you want to play vanilla renegade go back to 2002 and see how shitty it was. My point about infantry/tanks was referring to the paramount relationship between each other. What are tanks without hotwires/engineers? Why are their tunnels, ramps, sniper posts, c4? etc. Both, tanks and infantry play an important role. 1

creed3020 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) I still remember the day we enabled unlimited ammo on n00bstories. It was a HUGE shift in the life of the game and for every player who favours being infantry. I do have to agree that the combination of unlimited ammo and drop weapons is something that I both love and hate. What I mean by that is I love the selfish fun it gives me when I'm loaded to the hilts with all the good weapons but hate it when I'm on the receiving end of a Havoc who has leveled up to max veterancy and has all these weapons. They can level my tank and even snipe me afterwards to add to my misery. Further, this balance has been disturbed by these pimp weapons which grossly imbalance any infantry to infantry fights. I know because I've run two very successful infantry only servers of the course of my Renegade "career". The pimp weapons need a very limited ammo, or almost just go out of your pack once you're out of ammo, think of them as one time use. Interesting discussion and good idea to have it. Theboy Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Imo its supposed to be a spinoff from c&c. All infantry and tanks have unlimited ammo obviously, so Im not sure why the developers made it limited for infantry. I guess the only way it would stay true to the core of c&c would be to have no weapon drops and what you buy is just what you get. Obviously there are other implications and reasoning behind unlimited or limited ammo. The "fun" factor (lets face it competitive renegade is just dead and its a public server, fun should take precendence), making the game more diverse and keeping the skill gap lower like cod does. In whatever case Im sure it wont impact the game much, I just remember it being a help for gdi. Why? I dont know honestly thats just the way the dice fell at jelly at least.Â
Goztow Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Renegade takes 0 skill to play already, the real skill factor is the strategy you use to win. As u say, it's a spin-off. The light tank is gdi in c&c. A lot of the characters are either  of included or duplicated to be on both teams. Ammo is / was limited on characters . It's not a problem that weapons can have unlimited ammo. But it's a bit of a problem that the prize is the same as it was before, because that means that the infantry became better compared to tanks for the same prize.

Strategy is very important, especially in small games. However, certain situations can allow players/teams to overcome strategic mistakes. Things like an arty destroying a med or engineers remoting a stank. Even a clutch hit with a shotgun can make a huge difference.
Goztow Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 True but my point was that renegade doesn't need to be made easier to attract players as it's already very easy, with a very equally leveled playing field. Of course someone playing it for 10 years will be better than a newbie but making ammo unlimited will not change this, on the contrary cause the newbie will die before running out of ammo.Â
Theboy Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Well dont forget that unlimited ammo impacts havocs the most as they are good for countering arty rushes. Nod has lighter armored vehicles so it helps gdi to have unlimited ammo. I dunno take it off for a week and see what happens!
ehh Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 it was off for 10 years, improved the game in jelly mara by far when it was added in my opinion. and i'd say it effects gunners and rav/pics the most, most snipers play in the tunnels next to a pt, rav/pics are usually in the field (see top of the hill on under). 1
