ILL Harassment in DMs

There was MASSIVE team hampering going on this game....Itai banned Prawn because of it, Nyumuz was doing the same thing and got warned I think or told to stop

I was telling him to stop, the mods were telling him to stop, and yet he kept doing it multiple times...Of course I PM'd him because he wasn't listening...

I was playing this map from the start, at least for 1 hour, was trying the whole time, and this Nyumuz guy joins later and starts giving the enemy team (who had no strip) multiple tanks....of course that is annoying to ANYONE, the whole team was angry

Ultimately problem solved however....Prawn was temp banned, and this guy was told to stop as well so I cooled down...Itai took care of it, maybe I should have let the mods handle it from the start because Itai was there, that is my bad I agree, BUT sometimes there are no mods on your team so they dont see it and cant do anything about it so all you can do is PM them to get them to stop doing stupid shit....all non-mod players know exactly what im talking about.....

doesn´t matter what he did, it´s the job of mods to deal with that(which they did) also there is a difference between what prawn was doing, who in at least one case that i actually saw literally drove a mammoth tank into the enemy base just to hop put of it and let them take it on purpose and someone who gets his tank stolen by a sbh because they wanted to rep himself in the field or something. that may be frustrating but it isn´t team hampering. i do not recall nymuz as being a team hamperer ever. people are allowed to do honest mistakes on the server. of course people are allowed to voice their frustrations about such instances, too. but outright insulting them like iLL did in this instance is going too far and won´t be tolerated.  given that iLL recently had his fair share of mutes and kicks already and hatched out his trouble with gozy and this is from one week ago i´d say we let this pass for now, to give iLL a chance to show he understood, but you need to watch it, your leash will be short.

in general you can engage in your trollwars with the people that do actually want to join them(like me for instance) as much as you´d like, but stop dragging people into them that clearly have no interest in joining them whatsoever. you need to leave them alone. leave the shakos, tomos etc and generally the more unexperienced players alone.

think it depends. if there is a guy actively team hampering on purpose i don´t mind it, assholes deserve to be treated as such. but losing a tank by accident isn´t that and then you don´t get to act like that to that person.

It was field_b which doesn't have base defense. GDI team had quite many "unaware" players that left their vehicles and Nod (BVM noticeably) took advantage of it. Maybe these GDI players were confused witha field map without base defenses, I don't know and it doesn't matter. I spectated a bunch of them and although you can call it team hampering, it was not on purpose so besides explaining it to them via PMs, I don't think I could do anything. The only exception was Prawn who got a 24h ban as a warning.

Ultimately, as you concluded, you can't harass players, be it on the chat or via PMs. Annoying as it is, unintentional THing is part of playing a public server. 20 years ago we had a big enough player base that server owners could enforce a no-noobs policy and still had enough players. We don't have that luxury. Only thing to do is:

a. try to PM, explaining how they do wrong and hope they can read
b. call a mod (PM, !requestmod), especially if it's on purpose so we can do something
c. get a tech and help these poor players
d. last resort which you have to be extremely careful to not be considered as a THer yourself. I'm not even sure it's a good idea because it opens a window to players to take advantage of, so using it is under your responsibility and it may backfire you (by saying "you" I'm speaking generally to all players, not just ILL). The idea is to both teach these supposed-TH players the hard way since no other way worked and they do harm their team, and to give the team a way to limit the damage done by these players. Only when it's an ongoing reckless behaviour from the player, there are no mods, and several PMs with attempts to explain: get a mammy/art and hit whoever leaves their vehicle till they enter the vehicle again.

This account of the events is an ugly lie and anyone present at the time that it happened knows this. 

What ACTUALLY happened was I just bought a mammoth tank, exited it for a couple of seconds in front of our WF to purchase a hotwire, and in those couple seconds, a sbh that had snuck into base stole it. That's it. That's ALL that happened. This wasn't something that "happened multiple times." No mods talked to me except in regards to my questions about the DMs. No one was telling me to stop anything. No one was angry except ILL. And he immediately jumped to DMing slurs and insults.

I would like to see who would not be pissed in that scenario....Manny would be so pissed....you guys weren't ingame dont have the full context....it is different complaining about it later on the forums obviously

Also, this guy in particular has gotten his tanks stolen SOOOOOOO many times before....ive pm him about it before...that is why he is complaining now, because I always PM when he gets his shit stolen because it happens ALL THE TIME

Exactly....except I disagree about intent being important...it was blatant TH, coordinated by 3 players, in an effort to make me lose the map (I was solo and on a 5-0 winning streak at that point, traged was 0-3, inspect was 0-3, etc)...You can be team hampering and not know it....that doesn't mean you are not doing it.....you can kill someone without meaning to....and you still go to jail

My belief now is that they were all doing this in a coordinated fashion and on purpose just to make me lose....and when I still won anyway, then they complain on the forums....dont buy into the lies guys, who I ever PM somebody for no reason??

seems like iLL is a severe case of paranoia. explains a lot.

 

intent does matter of course, not sure how we´re even debating it. let´s say someone who plays ren for the first time ever loses a tank, would you still be harassing them like that and think it´s the right thing to do? players do have a right to not be good at this game or not take it as seriously as you, this is the last vanilla renserver after all. it is for everyone.  if you think you can bully people for being bad or not as competetive as you are you´re going to get muted. you can maybe pull that shit on the clanwars style games we´re having though that would likely kill them too as no one there except you wants it either.

Your situation is literally most moments of most pub games, ILL...
Pm'ing someone with this never achieves anything useful. If I spent my time messaging about the mistakes I see, I would never get anything done. On the other hand I think people generally like playing with me (except for when I give away vehicles), and might play a bit better when they do.

In summary, I agree with Shai, except nobody should pm that stuff to people, keep it to team or all chat if you're mad.

Nyums is a nice dude. You may not be “pro” at renegade, but as inspector said that shit doesn’t matter. There’s a large part of the player base that just enjoys playing the game, not taking it so serious. ILL really needs to stop being a little shit, or we need to pay blacky to program a mute feature so he can just say nasty shit to the abyss.

Here I went along with your definition of TH as literally "anything that hampers the team", but if you use this generalizing definition, you have to distinguish between malicious and unintentional. Normally when we speak about TH we refer to the first.

this is literally the job of moderators. and yes, only moderators, not yours. and yes, there are situations where figuring out what someones attempt was is quite hard. and there are others where it isn´t. one of the factors you take into account is obviously the player history. if someone never causes trouble, it´s unlikely they´ve been intentional in their wrongdoing. if it´s a new player and they do stupid shit every map they are either really new and unexperienced or intentionally causing harm. we can go to !spectate and watch them to try and find out.

 

a few weeks we had a guy where it was super obvious he was intentional. he used a trick stepping out of his tanks and back in to kill the turrets of his own team, they placed motes all over mct´s so you couldn´t rep properly anymore and so forth. these are the type of things where according to me, i don´t care if people insult them. however if someone steps out of their tank to buy another character or to rep themselves you can voice your frustration if you have to but you don´t insult them like that. that´s not ok cause it wasn´t intentional. nymuz according to his player history surely didn´t intend to harm his team. he´s a casual player that made a mistake. he´s allowed to do that.
