so ive had a thought on my mind lately.

our game involves war. yes mythical war between two sides that dont exist. however. alot of people have bad experiences with war. they either are morally opposed to it or they've legit been in it and did not like what they see. should we be factoring this in when we tell people about Renegade? is this a reason some shy away from it? should we keep this in the back of our minds while we recruit new players? or is it more important to accentuate the fun parts?

thats always been my thought is to accentuate the fun but i think its important to remember at the very least that some people are very 'scared' of war itself. whether the exact emotion evoked by it is fear or disinterest, it is a factor.

give me your honest take guys. dont pull any punches.

War games and real life war are completely different.

If it upsets someone i.e a Veteran then simply don't mention it to them out of respect, but I really don't see any other issue with it tbh.

How many war games are there presently out there?  Are you asking whether we should pre-qualify the game with "this is a war game" before you describe it?  If there are pansy-assed people that take offense to a war game, then let them play minecraft.

Dear god, if we just could teach new players how to oldskool-renegade... where teamplay and tankrushes where the only thing to survive, without any commands or modifications...

now we have snipers-only or single "heroes" wich completly ruin the oldskool feel...

i still love and trust in my renegade!

I couldn't agree more with this statement.

it is basically hippy mumbo jumbo to legit reject a game because they're too 'pro peace', HOWEVER, i dont think we should be closing out 'minecraft minded' people. while you cant actually build anything in ren there's an aspect of of defending the buildings, crafting up a good strategy with your team, and executing it.  and i think people people who normally wouldnt look at a war game (BECAUSE there is so goddamn many of em), would understand and have fun with the elements of CORE ren gameplay we know and love. the core gameplay is ESSENTIAL "old skool ren" as rackz puts it up here, and ren core gameplay is time honor'd

For the record... I played Renegade from the beginning for 12 years and occasionally play now and then.

@DickClark To answer your question:

I think personally that you are reading in to it a lot. The target audience (gamers/players) have specific games which will interest them, why because of the research the game studios do. The studio at the time didn't just think that Renegade would suit everyone who has just been at war so they want to continue it in a game, it was suited to a target audience of gamers at that period of time. They would have researched the type of audience they wanted to attract like a particular age or aimed at a specific gender...even to what it would be played on like pc or console etc.

70% - 90% of games in development fail...why? Because they didn't research the most important thing which is the target audience aka the player. A gamer will know what Renegade is, what genre it belongs to etc. It is then the choice of that gamer to play that game.

i appreciate you trying to answer this question fully. i see where you're going here but not only are we not the studio, but the demographic has changed (time) and the goal (making money vs having a server for fun) is way different between then and now. i do mostly agree though

i think they could possibly be failing because they end up spending the part of the budget for 'overhead' on snacks. :D
