glitch exploits are enforceable rules. period. you're ever so slightly stepping into setting bad precedent territory when you start arguing the relative skill involved in pulling each one off in the first place..

also, the fact that shorty still hasnt jumped in leads me to at least INFER that he uses this exploit all the flippin time.

you mean like ref hopping or flaming vehicles/infantry or tunnel beacons right?

I think what people are missing here is the lack of consistency in this decision. If the point is that ANY glitch is not allowed as volcom stated (Which is totally cool and makes sense) then temp ban/ kick ANYone using ANY glitch which is what using the pt outside of a building is. It wasn't meant to be that way. I'm really not trying to be a dick about this, I'm just pointing out theres an inconsistency in respecting some things in the game which clearly were not meant to be there and not respecting other things.

Then theres the question of was it meant to be included? I mean maybe the makers of this game DID intend you to use the pt outside of a building. Maybe they did intent this scanning ability for gdi to balance out nods stealth advantage. Who are we to say they didn't? Besides where was this argument 8 years ago? 10 years ago? 2 years ago?

dude. PT? seriously?

i dont understand your angle here. PT glitch is kinda funny / doesnt really come into play often. you need to get it out of your head because we're talking about glitch ABUSING here. not everyone gets banned for every glitch. that would be an impossible precedent to keep up with. anything that DIRECTLY IMPACTS THE GAME TO A TEAM'S ADVANTAGE is going to be noticed harder and therefore enforced harder. NO ONE is gonna go around kb-ing you for buying shit on a fancy purchase terminal glitch. in fact, sometimes its BEST to buy your shit INSIDE a building depending on who's scoping said ghost PT.

just because you cannot see any consistancy doesnt mean it isnt there. there are DEGREES of glitch exploiting dude...... goddamn

i dont mean to pick on you in particular either TheBoy but this is cut and dry. if the mods notice you glitch exploiting expect to hear something about it. just like if you violate the basic rules you should expect to hear from someone. very swiftly.

your type argument is actually even working to confuse the main issue here, which is NOT 'which glitches are worse than which glitches'. the main issue is ENFORCEMENT.

Look, what I'm saying is that if your going to enforce the following:

"You can have your opinions. Our rules clearly state no Glitching. It is not allowed. If there is a case where you can prove someone is doing it warn them, then kick. then temp ban. We tried making exceptions in the past and it didn't work. We will not allow people to abuse glitches"

Then by all means do it! But to make exceptions based on something being funny/not coming into play often is nonsense because putting a tank on top of the barracks for example is hilarious and largely useless, however you will be kicked for doing so as it is a glitch. Don't get me wrong, I'm for no glitch enforcement. I think the game is old and its best to just let players play instead of trying to referee everyone all the time. Let people have fun and enjoy themselves. If you aren't cheating, your "glitching" is hardly going to affect the game. That's why I gave the refhopping example from jelly to illustrate these things don't really change games, they just add more diversity to the gameplay.

Now as to enforcement. You wont be able to. I'm pretty sure everyone can see why. I  wont be using this method for finding sbh's personally, but best of luck differentiating the people doing it who are not on the forums.

with a game as broken as renegade, some glitches were allowed such as pt through the wall and hugging the cliff and riding down it as examples. Others weren't.

This obviously isnt, of course it is hard to police, but you can always encourage players not to do it.

You are a masterpiece and a shining star in representing this Community Trist. Sadly there isnt anymore Activity to justify your Behaviour, but hey, whatever suits you and RC. ^^

100% on point here ehh. the thing with me is just because something is hard to police is no excuse to not try. encouraging good behavior only takes you so far.  perhaps what could help here would be for all the mods to have a specific discussion about which glitches should be enforced more aggressively than others and what punishments can be brought down for repeat offenders

The only reason someone has to use a PT inside is that they have just spawned.

I dont follow the thread closely, only visited a couple of times after PTapioK made me aware of the thread.

And no, i dont use the glitch it all the time. So far it has been used occationally when i am bored, and the when map allowed it (complex and islands is really the only maps where its worth the "effort" imo). Generally speaking I either snipe in tunnels or try to help my team winning, and searching for sbhs is usually not the best way to contribute in that regard.

Like i mentioned earlier in the thread, i honestly believed the glitch was openly abused by a significant amount of the player base, as most people playing ren nowdays have been around a couple of years at least. I must admit, i hadn't read the rules properly, and thought the rules only prohibited specific glitches (such as invisi hug). After i saw this thread I have respected the rules and general consensus about the issue, and will continue to do so.

Credit to you Shorty, for posting here and for being honest.

I don't think anyone is mad at you because of all this. Like you said, it's a very old trick/glitch.

I'm also surprised that not everyone knows about this. It's all being fixed anyways.

I was just curious if there was any evidence to show it was an unintentional addition to the game.

Anyone arguing that this is a glitch that shouldn't be accepted must be for vanillia ren, anything outside of that is illogical.

Are you serious ? You went from arguing that this glitch should be allowed because " Not everyone can pull it off " , to arguing that this is NOT a glitch ?!

What?

Lets play game developers here:

So I'm a game developer that made a game with a character that only one team can see. BUT, I allow the other team to find that character by "scanning" through another enemy, so that the hitbox that I designed gets stuck until it reveals that one char that was made to be invisible ? Oh and wait, that char never even reveals it's just the hitbox. You know cause I'm a troll developer.

Do you seriously think the above is a logical scenario ? Is this what you're pointing at that this isn't a glitch but it's BY DESIGN ?! Intentional ? lol

an obvious sbh spot would be caught.

Any spot in your base on islands or complex is an "obvious spot". It's not the SBH fault that someone is abusing a GLITCH to spot him.

I could go on but I'm sure you will reply with some completely logical argument like you've been doing all over this thread.

Well maybe your one of those people who had no idea this tactic has existed for over a decade...

Its a part of the game, for all we know it was an easter egg for players to find and utilize. developers leave things behind for players to figure out all the time.

If you bothered to follow my points, it was that if your in the camp that wants to call everything you dont like a glitch, everyone can do it and it hardly is a game changer at all.

perhaps you can explain then based on the video that we just saw a highly skilled sbh moving about the gdi base in a stealthy way where he would never have been caught in that spot lmao

no point in beating a dead horse here though. Its already been made clear some time ago this ruling isnt going to change...
