Silently !skip'ing maps

Might sound a bit silly but,

Whenever a game starts the server initiates a poll to skip maps . Which is totally fine by me and I think it's great.

But a lot of the times I find myself forgetting to vote simply because people are using the 'page-up' button which doesn't show them voting

Now I know there is a big ass msg saying " The server has initiated a poll to .... #blameShai " but just like most people, when the game starts I'm buying that engi and rushing for the harv and simply forget about the poll.

 

What I'm asking for is : can we make the page-up thingy show up in the chat so we can at least see people voting and remember to vote ? Or maybe a !ppage to players that the poll has started , so if we join mid-poll we would know ?

Voting to skip maps really fucked up the server tonight.

I didn't even play a full map because every time something I liked came up it was skipped.

Worse than that, in around 10 mins and 3 skipped maps server population was halved.

( You can ask Billabong and Gozy about that if you don't believe me).

Can we just turn the voting off? Might keep server population up overall.

On a side note, does that 'silent' voting'  also apply to base defence power down, etc votes?

If so, I'm even more pissed off than Vlat is.

it is a vastly different type poll


perhaps having them be two different colors would highlight thier differences more..

however im in the same boat vlat. (definetly first thinking harvy down at start)


BUT. i think all voting also should require at least 50% minimum turnout. BUT heres where i heavily agree with vlat: the skip map poll should be more 'active' than the powerdown / sudden death ones.

With the latest TT update, serverowners are able to display that green text on the middle of the screen wich is known from the campaign or the multiplayer practice map. Just a little hint :P I dont know myselfe how this function is called, its been 3 years ago that i have coded.

 

If theres interesst, i could ask Jonwil via ICQ what the exact function name is.

Well, I'm 'whining' about the vote itself. It is an unwanted distraction from playing the game and going for the Harvy like a good AOW player, when all the fat lazy Mara players are just standing in front of a PT, doing fuck all that's useful, waiting for credits to buy a Mammy, voting to skip the map or just spamming 'I'm a fucking Gummi Bear'.

For the benefit of actual Renegade 'players', can we just disable voting?

It would, at least, avoid a long and retarded argument.

The voting is fine. If u don't like it when laps get skipped, then vote no. 

It could be made more obvious or you could just put a freaking post it on your screen so you'd remember it. You cannot expect the server to take care of all your problems :-). 

I still think there's too much clutter in chat. That's the real problem. I made a lot of suggestions on how to solve this about a year ago.

How about the REAL OLDSKOOL Renegade, where we wasnt able to do any jackshit? 

 

Where donations werent possible, where you could send personal messages to peoples that werent on the same server..(aka WOL)

 

If we already stay at the orininal westwood maps due nostalgia and stuff like this, how about setting up a total score limit for every map instead of being marathon or having a timelimit?

 

some peoples might be like basewhoring is the key, but actually, if you are able to base whore, then it makes sense, because the other team just sucks. i think, we dont even need a skip, or sudden death vote, or a time limit.

 

Its up to the players and the teamplay. we may dont even need any votes by using my idea..

for the record i like polling as it stands now. it has its uses.


i think polling in general works well because it can be used as a means to and end, as well as an ends to a mean.

goztow, while chat clutter can be an issue, i personally have never had trouble with it. but thats me personally

Can you add a line of code to make it specific to vlat only? Getting paged uselessly every new game is way too intrusive for my taste. Voting should be optional and as non-intrusive as possible to avoid disrupting the gameplay.

The poll to skip is not the issue. He wants it to show in chat whenever someone votes with hotkeys. This is a terrible idea. People use those hotkeys whether or not there is a vote of any kind. Blazn I can name right off the top of my head presses page down every 10-20 seconds vote or not. Add in the random noobs, certain [Dragons] and everything else. No.

Why is it even an issue that it doesn't show? I use it because it's easier than typing !vote yes/no not because I want to silently skip anything. 

But you do seem to have a problem with polls vlat,  I polled for SD and you told me I was abusing it because I used it twice lol

I absolutely had no idea that this thread would cause so much drama... I DID NOT complain about the poll at all.

I actually love the poll system we got.

All I wanted was a REMINDER to vote cuz I'm a man who works 10 hours a day and then goes to university then comes to play ren with his brain less than 1% working and I simply forget to vote on some maps because I don't see it in the chat - because of the "clutter" Gozy mentioned -
