Silently !skip'ing maps

Personally, I find the poll reminders pretty annoying and I've seen a few players in game reflect that sentiment. There's already reminders in the chat box - which we all glue ourselves to, don't deny it. It also happens every map, so if you forget, you have some serious short term memory issues that are probably not everyone else's problem.

I think the issue is LESS about people 'forgetting' to vote, and MORE about people thinking they don't have to because they don't realise which way they vote is going.

If instead of yet another reminder, we simply saw some interim votes to see which way the vote was going (say, half way through) then I think that would motivate people to vote if it wasn't going their preferred way.

That would also...you know, take it back to the original poster's comments about not forgetting to vote because he's a geriatric, but simply because he couldn't see which way people were voting.

Honestly, usually only 8 out of 30 odd people vote. Hence,  22 people couldn't give a rats ass if you show the extra messages, and will get annoyed by them.

I was thinking the only way to do it is to stop counting "dont-voters" or removing the minimum votes, but then loads of people will start ragequitting because they like a map that just got skipped.

There is no good way to do this. I think the extra messages are wasted, im pretty sure everyone knows a poll is going on..

*always skip field and under

I also respectfully request the private message to be removed as well.

I can't speak for Vlat, but for me personally, that totally nailed it.

I was going to regale some long assed story about a 3 hour game of Under as GDI and the first time we lost the field Nod pushed through a vote to powerdown base defenses. I was busy blocking a 3 Flamer rush with my Med as best I could, saw 1 yes vote, 3 no votes and thought OK we got this, too busy to vote myself. Guess What? Yep RQ.

I didn't even know players could vote invisibly until Vlat pointed it out.

I think another big issue with the current voting system, is that in most of the cases it's more effective to not vote at all instead of voting no, simply because you know the bored, can't-finish-the-game-legitimately yes-voters will get a majority anyhow. I personally do this a lot. Removing the minimum vote percentage, and possibly increasing the timer, would give more people an actual incentive and more time to vote, solving the issue of silent voters because it's not going to matter anymore if you vote not or vote no, you're simply going to have to vote no either way. having this in mind, knowing how many vote yes or vote no is not relevant anymore.
