ice187dna Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Just throwing this out there, normally I can take a screenshot and then save it to my pictures folder or a folder which I specify it to be saved to. Ever since Windows 10 has been doing these updates, for some reason I cannot save screenshots to any folder on my pc apart from my desktop. This has been going on for months now and it's getting annoying now. I went through a tutorial about how Windows 10 can somehow change permissions to block you from saving images to specific folders for security measures. I have followed it and still no luck with the images being saved to folders only the desktop. Any advice, hints, tips or point me in the direction of where I'm going wrong or as anyone else had this issue. ice187dna.

One of them was me getting 13337 score which is one in a million lol I just use sharex and puush to take screenshots now and they get uploaded as well. Edited April 30, 2020 by WNxH3adSh00t
shaitan Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 If you don't mind it popping up at startup(and you clicking it once in your taskbar for it to auto-hide(you can also set it in the Shortcut's options to Minimize)), then I've been using Clipper since 2004 or so. Just extract it somewhere, you can go into its Advanced Options and set where you want pics to be saved to(and other settings). If you want it to start at windows login, then make a shortcut of it, put it in your: C:\Users\YOURPC\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
ice187dna Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 Well I use a free program called Screenshot Studio trial version and it still works after the trial ended a few years ago.....opps....well anyways that won't save to any folder only the desktop now and I have a purchased one for doing screen capture recordings and video editing. That won't work either when it saves it to the folder so I had to change that to the download sections for it to save any video footage. It's like Windows is in security lockdown mode and will not save anything to a folder but allows saves to the desktop or the downloads section. It's driving me insane.
Vultima Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Run program as admin, it doesn;t hace access to the folder its trying to write too...what is with peoples permissions on windows lately...
ice187dna Posted May 1, 2020 Author Posted May 1, 2020 It's been like this for months, I haven't changed the settings..it's been the dam Windows updates which must have changed something. Ok I will try and see how it goes with the Run as Admin thing.
Vultima Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Everytime you find a folder that you should have full access to... Open command prompt as admin and type in TAKEOWN /A /F C:/path/to/folder then TAKEOWN /F C:/path/to/folder You can slowly begin getting stuff back to how it should be... You can also do the same on the entire C drive, but kinda not recommended
shaitan Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 I don't think that was it, she actually has full ownerships(yesterday).
ice187dna Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 Ok, I finally sorted it out. It ended up being the Windows Security which was blocking it. Windows Security>Virus & Threat Protection>Virus & Threat Protection Settings>Manage Settings>Controlled Folder Access>Manage Controlled Folder Access then switch it to 'OFF'. It works, I can not save images directly to my pictures folder instead of the desktop and also it was not letting me open Adobe After Effects either and now it's turned off I can launch After Effects with no problems. Yay.
