shaitan Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Yes, I am so lazy, using an old tutorial. I don't feel like unregistering my irc to do the updated screenshots. This is mainly for the Minecraft people who don't know anything about IRC. First off you will need a good IRC client, I suggest mIRC. It's free to use, even though it wants you to register(you can disregard that if you wish). Download, install, and run the program. Press continue twice, before coming to this screen: Edit the information in the boxes for your information. You do not actually have to use your real name, or real email address. It's better if you do so for the email portion though, that way if you ever lose your password you can have it sent via email. Now, to the left hand side, click on "Servers", and then "Add" as the picture below suggests: Fill out the boxes as shown, click "Add" and then "Select" for the picture below: Now, to the left hand side, click on "Options", then "Perform". For the picture below: Ensure the "Enable perform on connect" box is checked for the picture below: Type out "/ns identify password". Make sure to change "password" to suit your preferences. This is the password you will later use to register on the network. Underneath that "/ns identify password" is where you will be putting in the channels you want to join. For now you can put it like this if you want: /ns identify password/join #rc-aow/join #rc-minecraft Now click "ok" and go back to the "servers" on the left. Highlight the Rencorner one that you made. Click select, then click connect. It will bring you to our IRC. Since you are now connected, you need to register with the server. Type: /ns register yourpassword youremail in any window. Ensure you use the same password as you entered into the perform box earlier, and that you have the slash in there. That slash is how we do commands. This registering of your nickname allows you to keep your nick, get status on channels, and allows you to own channels...etc. 3
shaitan Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 On the subject of mIRC, here's how you can set timestamps for the irc and for logging: Tools > Options > IRC > Messages > click Timestamp Events then put this in the field next to it: [HH:nn:ss] Tools > Options > IRC > Logging > click Timestamp logs then put this in the field next to it: [HH:nn:ss] Click Automatically log: Both. Click Date filenames: by month
