fratboy Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Hello. I set up mIRC on this PC for the first time and tried to connect to rencorner server by following shaitan's instructions in IRC Perform topic. After a few seconds I get this message "Unable to connect to server (Permission denied)". I've tried using both irc.rencorner.co and the ip address.
shaitan Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Try the irc tab at the top of our forum here. Paste the logs of both that and mirc.
rzrbk1018 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I looked at my irc connection and it looks like this. after description type irc.rencorner.co after IRC server type 208.115.205.106 after ports type 6667 that should connect you.
shaitan Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 You said you tried the direct ip? The (dns pool) part suggests you're connecting to each of our linked irc's. Remove the "Rencorner" from each of those 'group' slots you have in the pic(under the port field). Try the direct ips: 208.115.205.106 64.31.41.114
fratboy Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 ok the direct ip 208.115.205.106 worked. Which is weird cause I tried it before and it didn't work then. Edit: I'm all set, thank you.
shaitan Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I'm thinking it was that group part you added. If server A doesn't connect, it automatically goes to server B, then C. Sort've of throttles it. Those two IPs are the actual IRCd's we have, so one or the other will almost always be online.
fratboy Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 the group part was new. I didn't use it the first times.
Volcom Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Come on ts tomorrow and I'll fix it for you.
fratboy Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 it's already fixed but thank you Volcom
fratboy Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 erm, so i just got back from my parents' house to my apartment. And mIRC doesn't connect again....I'm guessing it's my wifi? but that makes no sense
rzrbk1018 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 under description try irc.rencorner.co . maybe that will help.
shaitan Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 How fast is that connecting each time? Turn on your timestamps in options. See if you can connect it to: /server irc.jelly-server.com If you get it connected, tools>options>connect> either ident or local, see what your IP is(see if its the one starting in 173.). I know Karl used to have multiple IPS, one for gaming other for web. Can also try opening a command prompt, typing: ipconfig /flushdns Check your antivirus, make sure it's not blocking it. Check your firewall, make sure it's allowing it(home, work group, etc).
fratboy Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Takes about 20+ seconds to try to connect. same thing with /server irc.jelly-server.com Anti virus isn't doing it since I was able to connect before. Fire wall had no rule for mIRC so I made one that allows all networks but still nothing. i'm not sure what a command prompt is.
Joetorp Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 It's a window the accepts command line entries. Think of it as a dos window.
Joetorp Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 If you are using win 7, Start>search programs window on bottom>command prompt
fratboy Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Can also try opening a command prompt, typing: ipconfig /flushdns so what am i supposed to dowith ipconfig? flushdns isn't a command
Joetorp Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 ipconfig/? to display help you will see /flushdns is a command parameter, as in "ipconfig /flushdns" Edited cuz woolwind is always right!
woolwind Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 flushdns isn't a command on it's own, it is an option to ipconfig
rzrbk1018 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Have someone with teamviewer sort it out. Easiest way to resolve this.
fratboy Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 ipconfig/? to display help you will see /flushdns is a command parameter, as in "ipconfig /flushdns" Edited cuz woolwind is always right! flushdns isn't a command on it's own, it is an option to ipconfig Now I feel like a derp. But i did the command and still nothing. I also double checked all the firewall/anti virus permissions, all the settings everywhere, and still nothing. This makes no sense to me. I have the same network setup/provider as my parents, yet I can use mIRC at their house but not mine... Good thing I visit them every weekend for free food
fratboy Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 could it be that the server doesn't accept my ip? Like, would any of this mess it up?
shaitan Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 That's why I asked you to use the forum irc we have. It uses your IP even though it's a mibbit.com app. If we're both on ts hit me up for team viewer sometime when it's messing up.
